Same with India. high natural immunity from infection during surges (nothing to do with IVM) but at a very high death toll compared to it's peers.

    it's not all about vaccine

it's not black and white -- vaxxed and unvaxxed

meron mga nagka natural infection before getting vaxxed

(meron mga nagka natural infection while partially vaxxed, meron mga nagka natural infection after fully vaxxed)

what does that do to your body?

may mga bansa bumaba ang cases after a large outbreak kahit hindi pa majority vaccinated

    headscratcher?

Even OCTA is saying there were many unreported natural infections that led to natural immunity...add to the mass vaccination.

Wondering Why COVID-19 Cases Suddenly Dropped? OCTA Offers Explanation | OneNews.PH

But David noted such development was also observed in other countries like India where in some areas, 50% were found to have developed antibodies. This means the COVID cases could actually be higher especially when there were surges, but were not reported.

David said the situation could be the same in the Philippines. He explained around 800,000 people had been infected with COVID-19 in Metro Manila, which was not even 10% of the population. “Pero sabihin natin, suppose it was higher like 20% of the population and then you add ‘yung vaccination, then you could already be at mga 80% with antibodies so that is significant protection.”

In theory and based on pattern, David stated “we might be close to herd immunity” due to natural immunity and mass inoculation.

He said this theory could be validated once surveys are conducted by testing the antibody levels of people.

thing is the gov't doesn't bother to do a serology survey on the population

    kahit NCR lang

if the gov't can't or won't, maybe some NGO

    wala eh

    Yes... yes.

But I think one stands a better chance against the virus getting vaccinated before getting infected, rather than your body facing something it's never encountered before.

We also know now that vaccination provides a better immunological response than recovery from a previous infection.

    My 2 cents:

    What for?

I think the better strategy (given our limited 3rd world resources) is to focus on getting as many vaccinated as possible.

Note: Vaxing is not the sole solution, but it will help. Gawin muna yung magagawa...

COVID-19: How long will '''natural immunity''' last?

Having COVID-19 should confer some immunity against developing the disease again, but health experts do not know how long this immunity lasts.
Scientists know that some people have developed COVID-19 more than once, but there are not enough data for scientists to be able to analyze how long “natural” immunity lasts.
Having studied the genome of SARS-CoV-2, researchers suggest that, among unvaccinated people, reinfection could happen as soon as 3 months after contracting the virus.

instead of vaccine status dapat gawin basis for "health pass" is seropositivity (presence of antibodies)

basta may antibodies pwede ka mag travel, mag dine in etc

Tutusukin ka rin naman both ways, and the latter is free.

If recovery from recent infection's good for more or less 3 months and you'll have to have have your antibody titer quarterly naman din, might as well try to get an AZ shot...

like getting a shot every 6 months is harmless

di lagi maswerte no adverse reaction

you keep doing it eventually you'll encounter that 1 shot that will change your life

You have a point there though.

I'm not happy with the prospect of a booster every 6 months either, but for the time being, palagay ko ok lang (1 or at the most a 2nd booster siguro later down the line)

But if this is still going on by late next year, I might say say SCR*W it na rin
I know, there's a possibility that COVID will never go away like the current descendants of the 1918 flu, but I hope by then we'll have some kind of innate resistance to it na.

We're beset by millions of pathogens every second, many of them unknown and unresearched by science naman din- all exterminated by our immune system (otherwise di tayo nabuhay ng ganito katagal). Have a little faith in your B & T cells!

Nakapag dine-in ulit ako.

We've always been fighting off one pestilence after another naman since time immemorial.

There was the black plague, small pox (wiped out civilizations in South America), leprosy... pati nga TB nung araw, death sentence na rin) but we're now almost 8 billion strong on this planet.

I think we'll be alright naman (sana!) I just hope this will all be a bad memory someday...
