Biden’s Orphaned AstraZeneca Stockpile Grows to 2 Million Doses - Bloomberg
The U.S. stockpile of the controversial AstraZeneca Plc coronavirus vaccine has grown to more than 20 million doses, according to people familiar with the matter, even as the shot looks increasingly unlikely to factor into President Joe Biden’s domestic vaccination campaign.
AstraZeneca has yet to request Food and Drug Administration authorization for the two-dose vaccine, and the company faces safety questions abroad and scrutiny from U.S. regulators who’ve already rebuked it for missteps during clinical trials and partial data releases.
“Give them all away. By the time we even think about authorizing it, we are going to be in a glut situation domestically,” said Zeke Emanuel, a medical doctor and University of Pennsylvania vice provost who served as a senior health policy adviser in the Obama administration and on Biden’s Covid transition advisory board.
“We’re never going to use them,” he said.
Celine Gounder, a physician who also served on a Covid advisory board for the Biden transition, agreed the doses should be donated after the company secures authorization from the FDA. “We have enough -- we don’t even need Johnson & Johnson,” the third authorized U.S. manufacturer, she said.
Giving old data, was the last straw in the US...
Odyssey of a Covid Vaccine - Bloomberg
When AstraZeneca announced interim results from its large final-stage Covid-19 vaccine trial in the U.S., there were hopes it would reassure the world that the shot was safe and effective. Instead, it faced a flurry of doubts when the safety board overseeing the trial questioned figures showing the shot was 79% effective at preventing cases of symptomatic Covid-19. The U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, led by Anthony Fauci, weighed in with an unprecedented public statement laying bare the spat.
Two days later, the company announced a more complete data set, downgrading the results by 3 percentage points to 76%, while reiterating the shot successfully prevented all hospitalizations and severe disease. The shift was statistically small but the controversy was enormous, creating fresh hesitancy around the vaccine that so many countries are counting on.
In the span of a year, Astra has gone from favored child to problem child in the family of coronavirus vaccines. “There’s this little cloud that’s followed it around everywhere it goes, which I think is slightly unfair,” says John Bell, the Canadian-born Oxford professor of medicine overseeing relations between the university and AstraZeneca. “If people keep beating this vaccine up, nobody’s going to have the confidence to use the darn thing, and then we’ve got a massive problem—because it’s deployable, it’s cheap, you can use it globally, and it’s clearly highly effective.”
401 deaths today, new record unfortunately

people in government should not think of public service as a contest.
if someone is doing the same public service thing as we are doing, we should think of them as "our allies" instead of "our competitors".
Thats why it is called dirty or should i say duterty politics.
