DOH rejects naming COVID-19 variants after countries to avoid discrimination
Hahaha gago DOH! Si *uls lang nakaka memorized ng mga code ng variants na yan!
Deny pa rin na meron community transmission.

hindi pa daw considered variant of concern ang PH variant (P3)
di pa daw alam ang public health implications
of course... kasi ngayon lang officially recognized that it's not a known variant (UK, South Africa, Brazil)... it has its own unique set of mutations
and it was only detected last month
pero huwag na hintayin ang gobyerno magsabi variant of concern yan
it has 2 important mutations that increase binding to human ACE2 receptors -- N501Y and E484K
E484K is also the mutation responsible for evading antibodies in convalescent plasma from people who have recovered from covid
also antibodies generated by first gen vaccines like Astra

i really don't know kung uubra sinovac
if antibodies generated by sinovac's vaccine can recognize Brazil variant then it can also recognize PH variant
-
i also don't know if masks aren't working
remember there was advice from Fauci to double mask or use N95
dunno if that works
this is what i know -- the new variants attach better to our cells
kung dati isang kamay ang kumakapit, ngayon dalawang kamay
it takes less virus or shorter time of exposure to get infected
like for example dati meron ka nakausap... then days later nalaman mo nag postive siya so you got yourself tested pero negative ka
in the same situation but with new variant baka mag positive ka
in short, mas nakakahawa
kaya mabilis dumami cases

ok sinearch ko lang ngayon kung effective ang sinovac sa brazil variant

Exclusive: Study in Brazil indicates Sinovac vaccine works against P1 variant found in Brazil - source | Reuters
SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Preliminary data from a study in Brazil indicates that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech Ltd is effective against the P1 variant of the virus first discovered in Brazil, a source familiar with the study told Reuters on Monday.
The source, who did not provide data details, said the study had tested the blood of vaccinated people against the Brazilian variant of the virus. Coronavac, as the Sinovac shot is known, is the main vaccine currently being used to inoculate people in Brazil.

ayan sinabi ng PGC
-The reported variant carries multiple mutations in the spike protein of the virus that are likely to have functional significance, including E484K, N501Y, and P681H that were previously associated with known SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern. The said mutations, together with a three (3) amino acid deletions in the spike protein at positions 141 to 143, have been linked to possible increased transmissibility and immune escape in some studies.
kung dati nag demand tayo ng flight ban from UK after announcement of UK variant
ngayon kailangan mag demand ng flight ban from PH ang ibang bansa
sounds ridiculous diba?
it takes time for these things to be announced officially
by the time na-announce yan matagal nang kumakalat yan
who knows this Cebu variant could have evolved in Q4 2020 and only detected in Feb 2021

Sama ng timing ng pag alis ng travel restrictions. People were feeling safer because the trend was going down and restrictions loosened then suddenly the variants hit.
A ****ing bar was holding parties at BGC until neighbors reported them to Taguig and the place got shut down. Magician and his homies were arrested for playing billiards lol.

You won't end up in the hospital or die...
Although the study suggests re-infection may occur in vaccinated individuals, the protection given by CoronaVac against severe COVID-19 may indicate other mechanisms in the human immune system, aside from antibodies, may also contribute to reducing disease severity, researchers said.
How a badly managed quarantine of infected arrivals has now wiped out a year's worth of lockdown. And no one is held accountable for it.
4 Covid-19 variants, including a local strain, now spreading in the Philippines, SE Asia News & Top Stories - The Straits TimesThe Philippines now has all three variants of the coronavirus that have been fuelling record-breaking spikes in infections across the globe, and a Philippine variant that has the same lineage as the infectious Brazilian variant.
This comes as the country is seeing another surge in Covid-19 cases to levels not seen since the outbreak here peaked in the middle of last year.
The Health Ministry reported on Saturday (March 13) that it had detected the Brazilian variant in a Filipino who recently came back from Brazil. The strain had swept through Manaus city in the Brazilian state of Amazonas in November last year. No other details were released about the carrier.
This variant is believed to be fuelling a health crisis in Brazil and is now present in two dozen countries. It also has the ability to infect some people who had immunity from previous bouts of Covid-19.
The Philippines is already wrestling with two other variants - the British strain and the South Africa strain that can dodge human antibodies, blunting the effectiveness of some vaccines.
