Some heaters have a user-serviceable inlet strainer. Depending on how dirty your water supply is, just clean it every few months or so.

No other maintenance needed. For as long as it heats up the water to your personal preference, use it. These typically last more than 10 years. I would check the grounding and protection circuit every now and then to make sure they still work. Lalo na if you have kids using it.

I have 2 Panasonic multipoint heaters. One is working fine, the other conks out from time to time. I'm not saying Panasonic is not a good buy. But this is anecdotal experience. On the other hand, I've had my 2 Champs (one multi, the other single point) for 7 years and did not have any problems with either of them.

yes, iba-iba naman experience natin sa mga brands. i heard plenty of good experience naman with Panasonic plus ito rin ang recommended ng tubero namin. the good thing is 3 years warranty siya.

I went for the AEG. I specifically searched for a unit that can work on lower pressure, w/ a bigger mixing tank and a controllable heating system that is sensitive enough to cut-off when it gets too hot or the flow volume is too low. When I compared the inner parts of the other brands i found the AEG fitted more my criteria. By the way, my unit is an AEG BS 35---60E rated at 6KW *220V 60hz. It only needs a flow volume of 1.5 - 2.0 l/m and it's an instantaneous model. Right now it stays w/in the halfway to about 4KW setting and water stays hot all through out it's usage even on a summers day when water pressure is low. I hardly go beyond these settings and my electric bill ain't bad either. AEG gave me 3 years Warranty against product defect and service life. I just don't know w/ Panasonic and the others but normally mahaba naman warranty kapag H2O heaters.

I got mine from Robinsons Metro East Handyman way back in 2009. Still working in mint condition until now. It was under 6k but with discount promo then. The water nowadays are poor in quality. Lots of soluble Iron and fine sediments that turn your water faucets and fixtures whitish and even clog them in the process. Heated water produces a lot of calcified sediments so I installed a pre-stage filter in our mains to reduce if not eliminate these impurities that often plague our waterlines. AEG uses good materials in their mixing tank so clogging in the system is minimized due to lesser sediment contact.

No maintenance so far and its been 5 years already. The mixing tank is an internal component of the heater and requires no cleaning of any sort. Just wire it properly and make sure that your water supply is filtered or at least use a pre-stage filter before the inlet of the heater so sediments don't get inside the system and expect it to last longer than the expected warranty.

Got 2 Panasonics at home. So far so good.

Tip: Buy during the summer. They give deep discounts on heaters during the summer.

When shopping for a model, look for one with a built-in sensor that detects voltage/current 'leakage', which translates to a potential that the user might be electrocuted. On the two water heaters that we use, these are called ELB (Earth Leakage Breaker) on the Panasonic and ELSD (Electricity Leakage Sensing Device) on the AEG.

With these protection devices, you'll be safe if the heater core or its electronics develops a problem and starts leaking electricity into the water or anywhere electricity shouldn't exist. As soon as the safety mechanism above detects this electricity leak, it shuts off an internal breaker.

Equally important is to properly connect the heater ground wire (the green wire) to earth ground or alternatively, to a metal pipe that has several meters of its length buried underground. This is one of those things that your life depends on.
question po, pag wala ELSD yong heater unit, would a circuit breaker address this issue?? am considering some brands na wala ELSD, just want to confirm kung totoo yong sinasabi ng sales agent. thanks

Elcb is like gfci ground fault circuit interrupter. No, its not like regular cb found in your home panel box. It detects current leakage on the heater's body, trips the breaker when leakage limit(milliamps range) is reached.
