Well, ISIS already claimed responsibility, so most likely the bomber is ISIS affiliated, regardless if he's Syrian/Algerian/etc.
Media reports the guy came in from Greece. Initially nagduda din ako why he brought a passport, but if it's a fake passport then it wouldn't matter. And they would need to keep it in their person in case police ask them for it.
Ano ba ang EU response protocol for this kind of attacks? Is EU really that united that when one country declares war, all of the members should lend their military assistance?
When you're talking politics, there is no middle ground.
The right-wing hawks in the US are not satisfied with anything less than total US domination over Mid-East affairs... thinking that by simply steam-rolling their way through each and every hot spot by military might they can crush any and all threats to the United States.
Never mind that this method would cost more than the entire GDP of the planet. And never mind that, as we found out in Iraq, the only way to keep insurgency and terrorism from festering would be to enact a totalitarian police state. Which... Bush failed to do (why do people keep forgetting how ineffective his police action was back then?) and which Obama failed to do, and was unwilling to try... since it was draining the American economy so badly.
Those calling for total war forget their history. It didn't work in Iraq the first time. It didn't work in Iraq the second time, and caused more problems than it solved. A limited war can work, as we saw in Afghanistan. But the problem there was after the Russians pulled out, nobody stepped in to help rebuild the country... which mean that the Taliban and Al Quaeda took over... armed with US weapons and military know-how.
-
What is needed, first, is to stamp out IS. Second, to ensure that the people on the ground who aren't religious fanatics or fascist dictators are armed against both threats. Third, to help rebuild and provide homes and livelihood for the people who have been displaced and who need to return home. Creating stable nations in the Middle East weakens the IS power base. And this isn't done through dictatorships or monarchic regimes. Even relatively mild regimes like in Saudi Arabia serve as breeding grounds for IS due to the social inequity. Fourth... or maybe zeroth (since it has to be done continuously from start to finish)... destroy the IS message. Reveal it for the sham it is. Counter one dangerous viral meme with another viral meme. IS's power is its electronic reach. Curtail that, and the organization will lose its teeth.
It will take a long time to defeat IS. It can be done, but it requires dedication and patience.
Did OB just say something... sensible?![]()

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
This is just the beginning of the winter offensive. If rumors are to be trusted, IS has supposedly snuck in 4000 of their operatives along with the refugees.
regarding passports. same happened during 9/11. intact passport of the supposed hijacker unscathed and conveniently found when pretty much everything else have been blown to bits to the nano scale.
the more I muse about it, the more I think Stasi might be revived.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?

- At the other end of the vast square, on the Boulevard Voltaire, another person is killed, as well as an attacker.
