Some very interesting things I read on the Top Gear site on the supposed SUA issues of the Montero Sport:
1. Only 3 individuals out of the "numerous" complainants have come forward to actually file a complaint
2. Most instances involve units that were not insured and therefore face the possibility of expensive repairs for the collision damage of their unit
3. The last guy who posted a complaint, a "Mr. Chua" could not be contacted to verify his complaint
4. The mother company of MMPC in Japan already sent a team of engineers to verify the occurrences of the SUA and study the components of the Montero Sport --- inevitably, the findings support at least that the SUA was not caused by some mechanical failure of the vehicle's components, but by human intervention --- meaning the driver was responsible for the accidental acceleration of the vehicle.
Strange SUA...The Monty crashes twice...
https://www.facebook.com/deos.aquavermiponicsDear Aquaponics Friends,
Forgive me for posting this issue which is not related at all to aquaponics. I just want to burst out my sad feelings of what happened to me last Jan 18, 2015. I wished to just keep this with myself and tried to talk it over with Mitsubishi and find a solution to this. Our 2012 Mitsubishi Montero GLS-V AT is fully insured and we need to pay only P3k as participation fee...as simple as that. But after 2 meetings with Citimotors Alabang and MMPC....they even accused me of committing the error. I am a simple nature loving person who wants to share aquaponics knowledge to all and wishes no ill to no one....but I feel I have to share this so other Montero owners will be very careful. Hope that this will not happen to them and no one will be hurt. If you google the words "montero sudden acceleration" you will find many similar incidents.
I suffered this incident last Jan 18, 2015 8:15am. When this incident happened, a neighbor approached me and said "there was a similar accident in Davao and 3 people died". I asked did that Montero accelerated too? he said yes". So curiously I searched "montero accident" in my cellphone. To my surprise I found several similar accidents. Then we went home and I searched for it again in my home PC. Then I went to San Pedro Police Station to secure a Police Report.
Here's my story which I posted in topgear.com.ph
We bought a Mitsubishi Montero GLS-V AT last July 2012. We loved the car very much until January 18, 2015, 8:15 in the morning.
We were in my cousin’s house and after breakfast, we decided to go home. I told my wife that I will drive out the Montero from the garage so they can just ride the car outside. Following my religious routine, I went inside the car, stepped on the brake, while at “P” mode, I started the engine, released the hand brake and shifted it to “R”. Immediately, the car accelerated so much I hit the cement fence, knocked it down. I was shocked!!! After about 2 or 3 minutes (shocked and thinking what happened???) and with my cousin, wife and others all came out, I decided to drive it forward a little bit to see what I hit at the back. But to add to my trauma, as soon as I shifted to “D”, the car again accelerated forward and I destroyed my cousin’s kitchen. People said there was a big black smoke that came out of the exhaust pipe.
We reported it to Mitsubishi who said it was my fault (unknowingly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake). I said what??? after 18 years of driving automatic cars without any problem (we have a 2001 honda civic AT and a 2002 honda accord AT, had a 1996 Opel Vectra AT), I suddenly committed 2 consecutive fatal errors??? And to think that the car only suffered not so major damage, it is fully insured and I can just easily claim insurance and save all the trouble of reporting it to Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi dealer said maybe I am just ashamed of the error I’ve done and wanted to blame Mitsubishi…save my face. I said to whom? They said to my wife. I said again, what??? I am ashamed to my wife??? Married for 28 years, living and sleeping together and now ashamed to my wife??? When I told them...now you are accusing of lying??? They said No, we are just saying you stepped on the gas pedal unknowingly. So you meant, I am having illucid intervals or Alzheimer's Disease??? Then the government should confiscate my driver's license because I am a danger on the road already!!! Whew! I was so much irritated I told them I am filing a case already.
To those who have Monteros in the Philippines, I am more than willing to share my experience to you. I can send you the pictures and police report. These are my contact details: Deo Magbal Jr., Tel Nos 0917-865-9050 or 02-782-4385, 7 Ipil St Progressive Village, Tagapo, Santa Rosa City, Laguna,. Email add: dmagbal*yahoo.com
We are a filing a case against Mitsubishi. If you are a victim too. Lets join and possibly file a CLASS SUIT. I wish the present Montero owners not to experience this and pray that no one will be hurt.

MITSUBISHI MONTERO UNSAFE!!!
Hi All, I went to Citimotors Alabang today to follow up on the repair of our Montero which is fully covered by their in-house insurance. Anyway, again its a 2012 Mitsubishi Montero GLS-V automatic. Early this morning someone chatted with me and asked if its true that in MonTeros, you can shift from P to D or R without stepping on the brake pedal. I said I will verify this with Citimotors. And to my amazement, it is TRUE! I never tried to do this because in all our automatic cars especially the Honda Accord 2002, one cannot shift from P to D or R without stepping on the brake. well, the engineer even showed me without even sitting on the driver's seat that in 2012 models and below, you can shift from P to any mode! Wow they didnt have this safety feature only after 2012. 2013 and up have this already. This is a bloody error prone car! If and If there wll be stupid drivers driving Monteros. Therefore, Mitsubishi should recall all 2012 and below Monteros asap and install this safety feature. Should we and our government let these KILLER CARS roam the streets???

alas, there is no sweeping law on retro-fitting.. (is there?)
if there were, every other older car would be retro-fitted by law, driving all car manufacturers out of business..
.. first thing i do with my new car... familiarize myself with the controls, etc...
...finding out the quirks of the PRNDL only after 3 years of ownership...
and as an aside... so i stepped on the wrong pedal.. call it self-accident.. unless otherwise stated, it still should be covered by the insurance... right ?

... other way around, but ok...
personal experience... older mitsu (not montero)..
to this day, i still swear i stepped on the brake.
but... i can not explain the other brake pedal to the left of that "brake pedal" i swear i stepped on..
Hayz, marami lang talagang ayaw mag basa ng Owner's Manual
Never assume that all vehicles are alike

So with all a/t Kia and Hyundai cars . its a safety features . you can't shift from P to R or D without stepping on the Brake pedal. yung manual transmission naman ng 2012 Kia R io.you can't start the engine without fUll depress of the clutch pedal
Actually there is a button on the Monty you have to depress on the shift lever before you can shift from P to R to D.
And there is also a warning in the users manual, that you should not depress this lever if shifting between D and N. Because you might damage the gears if it over shift to P or R while the car is moving.

Confused yata si Mr. Magbal.
Kung mannerism na nya na mag step sa brake pedal when shifting gears from start-up, then his monty not having a brake switch is immaterial.
If his foot is in the brake pedal (as he claimed), his monty will not move, it is not called a brake pedal for nothing.
The only flaw for not having a brake switch is that the driver will not know if he is really stepping on the brake pedal and not the gas pedal during start-up.

of course it was the car's fault! humans have brains...!
the plastic bumper caved in, as did the metal hatch cover and the plastic rear light.. but... are there any strengthening metal bars in that concrete post? because the hollow block fence attached to it does not seem to have any...

Mind you guys, the owner is driving/using this car for two years and only now it happened. He needs independent technicians/company to diagnose the problem that he can present in court and if he proved the case, this is very BAD for this car maker.
