DTI: No third-party qualified to investigate Montero Sport SUA
    Text: Eric Tipan / Photos: AutoIndustriya.com | posted April 18, 2016 10:53

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has done all it can to clear up any lingering doubts regarding the performance of the second-generation Montero Sport and its alleged 'sudden unintended acceleration (SUA)' issue hit the headlines in 2015.

During the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) investigation MMPC presented their top executives, the Montero Sport and various other tests done by the automaker's Japan headquarters Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) that it will require an independent, third-party firm to make a qualified assessment of whether or not the Montero Sport did suffer from SUA.

Yesterday, the DTI's Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) announced that it only received a single bid for the service of investigating the allegations of SUV versus the Montero Sport.

The firm's name was undisclosed but the committee said that the bidder failed submit a document to indicate that it has completed a similar project with a value that is at least 50-percent of the approved budget for the Montero Sport SUA contract.

"Under the law, if the bidder is non-compliant, the DTI Bids and Awards Committee will proceed in accordance with the Government Procurement Process. There will be mandatory review as to why there was a failure of bid. We will convene this review committee immediately," said DTI Undersecretary Atty. Victorio Maria A. Dimagiba.

"We are bound by the results of the fact-finding investigation as well as the resolution of the House (of Representatives). And if SUA is established, DTI's role is to decide on the proper actions provided for under the law to safeguard public safety," added Dimagiba.

A reliable source revealed earlier this year that the DTI had even proposed to MMPC a third-party test to be done abroad, but will be shouldered by the company since the agency does not have the budget to perform such activity. But automaker declined due to "confict of interest".

    SUA? 3 car accident

We were following the black montero sa zipper lane dito sa skyway. I think we were going around 80km/h.

Traffic stopped infront hanggang buendia na and then

buti nalang walang incoming car from the other side, kung hindi, sigurado sapol din yun adventure.

Looks like an ordinary car accident to me. Unless the MS driver came out claiming SUA (which is a poor excuse for how he was driving) --- what he was really doing is changing lanes improperly --- hence the collision.

me think it was an ordinary accident as well because we were not in a stop and go traffic. maybe the attention of the driver was not 100% focus on the road.

Nagulat na nun nakahinto yun traffic sa harap, tried to squeeze in the right side, then instead of stepping on the brake, he stepped on the accelerator, hence, the thick black smoke.

Well, something else is occupying Kabayad...este, Kabayan's radio program these days -- the recent Close Up Forever Summer Concert deaths at the MOA...so medyo old news narin ang SUA.

Tinitira naman niya Close Up kasi responsibilidad daw ng organizer yung mga namatay at dapat daw drug-free yung event (notwithstanding the fact that the NBI found that it was the victims who brought in their own drugs to the event).

Latest Mitsubishi Montero SUA Incident In Quezon City

Some netizens that seen this photo says that people who have Montero sports blame SUA for every accident because most of Filipinos finds hard to admit their mistakes. Comments also said that the driver is careless that’s why the accident happened.

One of the netizens who give comments said that he witnessed the incident. He said that it is a human error and not an accident because they are behind the Montero from Puregold Supermarket, he also said that another vehicle honks the Montero for its slow movement.

The witness said that the driver had panic that leads him to sudden acceleration where he crashed at the center island that causes traffic along the road. The photo was uploaded by Manila Bulletin in the social media.

Isn't stopping publicity about the issue the best way to recover from a scandal? I would think SUA is a distant memory already, seeing how many MS are sold each month. Vernon is actually doing more damage to MMPC by reviving the issue again.

The SUA issue came out again because of the findings of the third party hired by MMPC. Not because of Sarne... The official full report will be submitted to DTI around next week.

Oh. Still I think it is best to leave the issue alone. Out of sight, out of mind. I remember Toyota's D4d woes before. They just fixed it and moved on.

I agree it is BS. I just can't wrap my head around how he thinks printing it will help MMPC. Hard for me to think he is somehow working for TMP or maybe Ford? now considering how vigorously he defended MMPC before.
