Sa mga nagsasabi na too cramp ang pedals ng montero. No its not. Mas madali pang magkamali sa mga mini cars like mirage, eon, picanto, etc etc..

's why i got a wigo AT.. nag-babanggan ang paa ko sa MT.. but i can not seem to confuse the gas with the brake pedal in the AT.
perhaps, a combination of ergonomics... brake & gas pedal height.. driver seat height/design.. center console.. steering wheel..

Me too. At least in the old AT vehicles, brake pedals are a bit higher than gas pedals.

^in design there is such a thing as redundancy thats why there are 2 stop lights in every car. if one fails the other is expected not to. the probability if both failing at the same time is low

there is also such a thing as double redundancy thats why some cars have 3 stop lights.

The brake light also worked on the 2nd driver when he used it, near the very end of the full video you see even the third brake light light up. Mostly likely as he was shifting it back to Park, he will need to press the brake for that.

But before that it did not light up once which goes to show that it was never depressed. Knowing full well that a mechanical switch worked perfectly fine for the first driver before they switched out rules out likelihood of the switch being dislodged when the 2nd driver was using the car.

First driver likely put the car in neutral and pulled the handbrake. 2nd driver went in and just nudged it in reverse without pressing the footbrake once (1:58). The handbrake kept it in place even with reverse engaged as it was just above idling. Then handbrake release you the car crawl first (1:59) for a bit then reverse quickly (2:00) indicating the accelerator was pressed while in reverse. You also notice that the brake lights never lit up during that time.

Panic. 2nd driver reaches for the handbrake while foot still on "a" pedal he believes to be the brake (we see no brake light still) but accidentally also nudges the the transmission from reverse to drive *2:01 (do-able). Since the pedal which is not the brake (no lights still lit up at this time) is still being pressed, car simply complies with the command to go to drive and move forward * 2:02 after countering the reverse momentum done previously.

*2:04 nearing impact with other vehicles, he tries an old technique of pumping the brakes assuming it needs fluids to be pushed back into them hence why they are not working and he only slightly releases the pedal then presses down hard to "pump" it. This is why you see the sudden release of a plume of black smoke which happens when you rev the engine hard.

*2:08 I believe he was trying to shift it to park and you need to press down on the brake for that which he pressed down again on the pedal which releases again another plume of black smoke.

*2:13 he either realizes his foot was not on the brake to shift to park or between 2:08 to 2:13 he removed his foot completely from the pedal to stop the "revving" and places his foot back on the brake to shift to park. Brake lights lit up

*2:30 I think maybe that the guy interviewed by ABS CBN Was the first driver not the 2nd because the facial feature looks different. Just an add on comment from me.

^all stop lights off all of the sudden with
a defective switch as a culprit will favor owner

those bulbs will fail one by one not all at the same time

brake lights is a simple circuit, a battery in series with a mechanical switch (normally open) and the bulbs, thats why you can press the brake pedal even if theres no key the bulbs will light up because there will be a complete circuit

ABS-CBN particularly De Castro and Failon are known for slanted news or comments!

Black smoke indicates the accelerator was depressed to the floor...not flooded with fuel...
