Their explanation on the white smoke is that its caused by the stainless exhaust tip...

things to try in MS, in case you forgot to close the window and you noticed it after removing the key from the ignition, you still have few seconds to close it w/o putting the key.

Its normal for a diesel but's its not normal for a diesel to smoke that new. I think that's not a GTV. GLS-V rather?

Unless we know how a car was maintained or where its gas-up, it is safe to assume that as per actual experience of owners here that after the 1,000km PMS, less visible na yung smoke. Also, IMO, it will get better after the 5,000km PMS.

Experienced that smoke in the morning when my Strada 4d56 was overhauled before. The mechanic mentioned that the piston rings have not settled in yet properly. After the 5,000km PMS, the smoke was drastically reduced. Hopefully it is the same with the new MS.

I wish the the Head Unit of the Montero Sport GTV can play Divx.

Has anyone tried to play a Dual Layer DVD with their GTV Head Unit?

based on the many posts here, personal experience and videos. now i'm under the impression that the smoke issue is experienced only in gls-v. why??

for the comments/inputs. i thank you. fellow tsikoters.

in relation to this smoke issue. my gls-v is white. if i open/close the tailgate and my sweaty/ oily fingers touched the cladding. if i use the car for a day, the next morning i can see black fingerprints. ala CSI. hehehe..

Neither do I. I don't understand why it's only for GLS-V though they share the same engine Is there a discrimination here?

I have the same experience bro. White GLS-V, always find fingerprints/ dust on the tailgate garnish. Punas lang naman tanggal na

I've confirmed with several sources about the Head Unit of 2011 Montero Sport GLS-V and GTV - has output for 4 speakers and subwoofer.

My GT-V is fine. It was only that one occasion that mine smoked. That was the first few days when on idle with aircon on full for 20mins.

As for smoking when acelerating. All diesels do from time to time. This is due to unburned fuel as a result of modern diesels' fly by wire electronics. This is usually down to the driver putting his foot down to far when no benifit is gained. This black smoke is somewhat reduced by the wastegate/egr system.

I have seen brand new Mercedes MLs and BMW x5s smoking on acceleration, and my older 5cly Merc diesel did sometimes even on euro iv fuel; but this was down to me. Was behind a new white Starex today and some smoke came out as he was accelerating rapidly by a motor-tricycle in an out-in overtaking maneuver.

As for dust/dirt on the tailgate. This is more than likely put down to the dirt and dust on the road/in the air. The tiny bit of occasional smoke that has been shown here in videos/photos as an example, would not cause what you describe on the tailgate. For those not used to a hatchback configuiration, it is normal for this are to be filthy. That is why a rear wiper/washer is fitted.

In conclusion; I am not one of the GT-V owners complaining of excessive smoke.
