The 2008 lancer has no 1.6 version.
Naturally aspirated gasoline engines for the all-new 2008 Lancer:
1.5
1.8 (Europe)
2.0
2.4 (North America)

The old style 1.6 liter Lancers might be retained as the lower end models.
The all-new 2008 Lancer which will be known here as the "Lancer EX" will be their higher end 2.0 liter range.

The 2008 lancer has no 1.6 version. - meaning Good-Bye 4G18!
Naturally aspirated gasoline engines for the all-new 2008 Lancer:
1.5 - 4A91 - *washburn- this is what you are looking for. The specs of this engine is comparable to the 4G18!
1.8 (Europe) - 4B10- 140hp- this is what we neeeeed!!!!
2.0 4B11- 155hp- now here! Sabi ng Top Gear: Ravishing! - also present at the Dodge Caliber (including the tranny and chassis components-due to the tie-up of MMC with DC years back.)
2.4 (North America) 4B12- IMO, we can pass this. bring in the 4B11 Turbo otherwise known as the Ralliart!

The old style 1.6 liter THAI Lancers WILL be retained as the lower end models.

Lancer Tsikoteers, can anyone post pictures of the THAI Lancers? They have been revised again for the third time- Wala pa sa dealers ang brochure nito- even the EX line. This can convince the Vios/City users to get a full size sedan instead (sorry 1.3 sentra)! Thanks...

This is the current Thai Lancer (sporty 1.6 SEi model with bodykit shown)

This new bumper design was actually the 2006 facelift of the USDM/JDM Lancer which originally had a one piece grill, Mitsubishi Thailand just added the Boulay pizza grill, in older models like the one in the RP the triangular piece of the Boulay pizza grill is part of the bumper.
This means that you should be able to replace the Thai Lancer's grill with a one piece USDM/JDM grill. (see photos below)

2006 USDM Lancer facelift

Ralliart version

This is the JDM facelifted Lancer, the lower end models are still available in Japan. (the all-new Lancer EX is sold in Japan as the Galant Fortis)

3M cash price = harang. Yung official SRP sana at warranty para makumpara sa STi. Mas mahal pa ata STi in $ tapos +650k locally ang Evo X? Labo.

nakakita na ako ng isang silver na Lancer EX sa may QC. Maganda talaga ang design, reminds me of the wedge type Galants of yesteryear. may available 1.8 engine kaya? this can be a tough competitor for the Honda Civic. Just hope it will have a competitive pricing.

Wow very very good price less than a million for the 2.0 liter. Civic better watch out, nakalusot ka sa Mazda 3 and Corolla Altis pero mukang matinding competisyon ito....

thanks sir mel here's the article of butch gamboa regarding the new lancer

Mitsubishi’s on a roll?
A bunch of motoring journalists, including myself, were invited by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) to test drive the all-new Lancer EX at the Subic International Raceway last Thursday, May 8. As usual, not wanting to wake up early for a 7 o’clock call time at the Mitsubishi Kalookan Showroom, I opted to go on my own with our TV production staff and crew in tow instead of the shuttle bus that brought most of the media group. I thought a few more hours of sleep during the “long trip” to Subic could do wonders.

But to my disappointment I failed to sleep for two reasons; it’s no longer a long trip to Subic with the new Subic-Tarlac Expressway and the fantastic scenery along the new highway would not make you sleep even if you wanted to – but then that’s another story. But believe me you should try this new route sometime.

The pre test drive briefing was done at the Subic Bay Yacht Club, where the journalists who chose to stay were billeted. Aside from the interesting description of the all-new Lancer EX, which covered all aspects from aesthetics to engineering, a highlighted announcement was Mitsubishi’s grabbing back its “second overall” position in the local auto industry in the past month. Mel Dizon, MMPC senior vp for marketing attributed this feat to the market’s continuing acceptance of the Mitsubishi Strada and other Mitsubishi models now slugging it with the rest of the pack.
But after test driving the all-new Lancer EX, which is concededly several levels higher than its predecessor, Mel may have to include it in the list of highly-favored models coming from the MMPC stable.
The all-new 9th generation Lancer EX is a “completely built up unit” (CBU) from Japan, although my on-camera interview with MMPC president Masahiko Ueki revealed that serious studies are being made to have it produced (CKD) in the country.

The test drive course that Kookie (of the famous Ramirez racing clan) prepared actually made the motoring journalists have a better hands-on feel and experience of the automobile’s remarkable driving attributes. The driving exercises included braking, acceleration, handling and speed.
As soon as you press the accelerator pedal without necessarily touching the metal you would immediately feel the silent roar of a rally-bred engine (max. 155 PS * 6,000 rpm and max torque of 199 Newton-meter * 4,250 rpm) beneath the hood.

In the braking department, which I found myself as very satisfactory considering the car’s power, Froy Dytianquin, MMPC’s avp for marketing services credited to the 16-inch ventilated discs up front and the 16-inch drum-in-discs at the rear aided by 4-channel ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution for its awesome breaking capability.

The Lancer EX’s nimble maneuverability and excellent handling was visibly demonstrated in the slalom portion of the test course. I didn’t hit any pylon at almost 60 kph speed, just barely missed a marshal at the end – his fault for being where he shouldn’t be, joke. But kidding aside, Mitsubishi attributes this racer-like handling to the McPherson coil struts with stabilizer bar up front and an independent Multi-link set-up at the rear that make up its suspension system.

Another very apparent plus for the all-new Lancer EX is its seamless gear shifting, which you can leave by itself or do yourself with magnesium alloy paddle shifters located just below the steering wheel. Mitsubishi prides itself with this class-leading breakthrough by way of their INVECS-III Continuously Variable Transmission with 6-speed Sportronic shift mode.

It’ll be very interesting to see if the all-new Lancer EX in tandem with the Strada pick-up could sustain Mitsubishi’s present performance in the market.
The test drive indeed successfully endeared the Lancer EX to the motoring journalists based on their expressed opinions right after. MMPC is positioning the new offering in the upper class of the compact sedan segment with SRPs of P1.125M for the top-of-the-line Lancer GT-A, P1.018M for the GT and P990,000 for the MX.

Oh, by the way the Texas Hold ‘Em tournament that was held after the test drive dinner was an all-STV finals – STV vp for production Jenny Bleza, STV top-notched TV cameraman Matt Mallari and myself. You don’t have to ask who won. There are only very few occasions when I pull rank.
Congratulations to MMPC.
