February 14th, 2010 11:16 AM #153about 1.5years ago, i was able to watch these hatch comparisons done by Best Motoring of course using JDM types....that include Honda Fit (CVT w/ Torque converter); Mazda 2 w/ CVT; Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Swift.... although catalog specs claim that Honda's Fit was the best one but in reality (after about 250km actual road trip by BM Jpn) the Yaris came out on top.... the Mazda 2 was a close second.... not sure exactly what the slushbox does to the MZ2's fuel consumption...but shouldn't be that bad....

There are so many variables, it's hard to tell. Some cars have weird fuel systems, Toyota among them, that makes judging the amount in the tank difficult. The best way to tell is to drain the systems completely (both tank and lines), top off the cars, then run them till they're dry.
Canadiandriver does this dry-to-dry run for their annual fuel challenge. Of course, Toyota always wins there, too... with Honda close behind. (both 1.8) ...of course, the Mazda3 in that test had the big 2.3 liter engine... so it was handicapped somewhat... :hysterical:
The standard automatic in the Toyota might just have a better cruising ratio than the Honda CVT... or it might be a factor of Toyota's better low-rpm tuning. The CVT is usually more efficient in stop-go traffic, where its low friction helps it save fuel, since the CVT internals are as light as in a manual. Having seen, firsthand, over 20 km/l in a city eco-run with the previous Honda City... I can say it works... but it all depends on driving style. The new Jazz/City with the 5AT doesn't seem to be nearly as efficient in traffic. The results from the last eco-runs with these cars were kinda disappointing.Last edited by niky; February 14th, 2010 at 12:38 PM.

Mazda 2.
It is a worth considering vehicle for those who are shopping off a sub-compact vehicle. And, with the price of 795k ... I have a feeling that it will do well in sales soon.
And yeah, this too is a good alternative against its competitors. The 1.5L Honda Jazz with a hefty price of 842k attached to it gets beaten already for those whose budget is limited.
The Toyota Yaris 1.5L this, you can make a face-to-face test, this too do good in sales and yes, the Toyota Yaris is despite its features are also priced competitively. 700+k, not sure about the figures.
The Suzuki Swift. Ah, the so-called classic sub-compact vehicle. Yeahp, I agree it's looks don't just get old, it still grows on me that aggressive looking vehicle. But, for other it's the other way around. They find the swift as one old-looking vehicle. Well, atleast Suzuki made an enhancement to their line-up, added a Manual Transmission plus with a price of 730k.
Each vehicle has it's pros and cons yes. But just by looking at the price ? The Mazda 2 wins. Stunning looks, 1.5L engine etcetera and yeah, that automatic transmission that could attract girl drivers as well.
It`s just new of course. My views to it might change, as soon as I get hold of one of them. :hysterical:

Yeah limited stocks lang but for the Spirited Green na MAZDA 2 hatch... kasi Limited edition siya...Well, don't think twice in buying a MAZDA 2 Hatch pero I would suggest that you test drive the unit in order to feel the difference. I myself had a Honda CRV 2000 and switched to a Honda Jazz kahit I am working in Mazda Alabang pero nung naidrive ko na yung Mazda 2 papuntang display namin na feel ko yung difference talaga... sobrang tipid, powerful and not only that takaw tingin talaga because of its sporty look and ofcourse yung color.... If interested just contact me at this number 09275015378 or at my landline 7104906.
