More info...
RAYONG, Thailand — AutoAlliance Thailand, a Ford/Mazda joint venture, unveiled the Mazda 2 to the local media on Thursday as the company prepares to start production of the subcompact at its Rayong assembly plant here.
The car is based on the model currently in production in Japan. It will go on sale in Thailand in November and will be rolled out in other markets in the region soon after, starting with Indonesia later in the same month, the Philippines in December and Malaysia next March. For the whole article, click link: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=158847Ford Motor has similar high hopes for the model when it rolls out the Fiesta-badged variants across the region at the end of 2009 and early 2010.
Love the headlights.
But I'm sure it will produce a lot of RICERS, give it 6 months after the release![]()
Mauuna ang 5 door hatch variant, susunod ang Sedan version maybe in three or four months after nung launch sa December.![]()
Ka-presyo nang Jazz yata to or mas mura nang 30K Pesos to..
Matagal pa ang Sedan variant na medyo pangit..Malamang may 1.3 at 1.5 liter variants nito.Sarap gawing taxi!!

Here is my non-car expert summary of Mazda 2 vs. Competitor hatchback comparison results
Mazda 2 vs. Jazz vs. Fiesta
Engine Power : Jazz
Fuel Efficiency : Jazz
Exterior : Fiesta
Interior : Jazz
Road Handling : Mazda 2
Value for Money: Mazda 2???/ Fiesta???
I think if Mazda 2 and Fiesta's goal is to eat significant market share from jazz(or city), these two first timers should also excel in value for many category listed above.
I’m expecting a "deceiving" introductory price for Mazda 2 and Fiesta. Usually new models have no dicounts. But later on, very competitive discounts might be offered for these two cousins giving them clear-cut edge over Jazz/City in value for money category.
Assuming these two later on would have very attractive discounts, question is is it enough to woo Honda lovers or even Toyota lovers?
The only LHD Colt made in Asia is the Taiwan-made Colt Plus (thats the bloated extended-rear wagon/MPV version of the Colt)
There were rumors that the Colt Plus was supposed to be launched here but its been like 2 years already and still nothing.
PS: The next Nissan March/Micra will also be made in Thailand just like the Yaris, Jazz and the soon to be launched Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta (this means the next March/Micra could also be sold here), but knowing NMPI, we're not sure if it will make it here.

The new gen Nissan Micra sourced from Thailand will arrive here thanks to NMPI(they'll start releasing new cars by early next year).Yung Colt Plus eh mahal pag dinala rito but let's wait for the so-called 2011 Colt that will replace the old GLX and GLS Lancer..
As for the Mazda2 eh mauuna ang 5 door hatch at malamang ang closest rival nito ay ang Suzuki Swift, forget the Yaris which is really dull(still wondering bakit walang 1.3 liter variant nito!) dahil for sure sisikat tong Mazda2 basta't ok ang pricing nya!
Yung Sedan variant ng Mazda2 eh sana puwedeng gawing taxi, kinda reminds me of those old 323 Familia taxis(marami pa akong nakikitang ganyan sa roads)..But this one's bigger!![]()
ser lamborghinione, on the power department magugulat ka yung Fiesta ngayon has actually alot of grunt. so i think it has enough reserve to beat the Jazz. though power shows. 120ps for Jazz and 117hp for Fiesta, the latter has slightly fatter torque. u'd be (pleasantly) surprised.... pero yun nga lang yung dashboard plastics ng Fiesta eh mas mukhang cheap talaga....
pero although kahit mas lower yung Mazda2 in terms of power....yung group test ginawa sa Japan. lumabas na top yung Mazda 2 interms of Race track performance, and lower fuel consumption..... but u do have to sacrifice some leg space compared to the jazz...
Isipin mo to, Toyota and Honda, no. 1 and 3 sa local market, most
trusted brands pa sila. So kung ikaw(Mazda/Ford), gusto mong i-woo loyal buyers nila, hindi mo man matalo sa engineering prowess(Honda-fuel efficient/powerful engines, Toyota-dependable), pero sa pagbaba ng presyo, may chance di ba?
I'm not anti-Honda or Toyota, follower din naman ako ng mga brands na to. Pero for some buyers, no. 1 sa kanila yung value for money when choosing a car which I think lamang yung Mazda at Ford sa ibang Japanese brands. Sad to say majority of all local buyers are NOT aware of it.
In short, wag gawin 805K ang price Mazda 2!
Comparison:
Jazz 1.5: 120 PS * 6600 rpm, 145 Nm * 4800 rpm
Fiesta 1.6: 120 PS * 6000 rpm, 152 Nm * 4050 rpm
Mazda 2 1.5: 103PS * 6000 rpm, 137 Nm * 4000 rpm
Jazz 1.3: 100 PS * 6000 rpm, 127 Nm * 4800 rpm
Fiesta 1.4: 96 PS * 5750 rpm, 128 Nm * 4200 rpm
Mazda 2 1.3: 86 PS * 6000 rpm, 122Nm * 3500 rpm
I heard that the quality is ok, guess we must just wait and see the actual unit.
Like what Tom Ford of Fith Gear said when moving from a Focus to a Fiesta, its like you just downsized without the feeling that you also downgraded.

Sir eggman, I'm not saying na mahal ang Mazda 2
I think deceiving pa rin yun 805K, kung kaya naman ng Mazda na magbigay ng let's say 50 to 70K(or more??) discount e di around 755 to 735K na lang price for top of the line model. Di ba malaking attraction to for would be Mazda2 buyers?
More sales = more profits = brand image/trust improvement(parang Honda or Toyota, pag marami kang nakikita sa daan, meaning maraming happy and satisfied owners, then gusto mo na rin bumili unless gusto mo kakaiba ka)
Anyway, kanya-kanyang strategy naman nyan and I'm not the boss.
