Good morning guys. I just got my M3 Speed last week and I noticed when I opened up the hood there is no heat shield protector underneath it. Yung M3 nyo ba may heat shield sa ilalim ng hood? Curious lang ako dahil with all the tech stuffs that came with the M3 e di napagisipan ng Mazda na maglagay nun.
Grats on the Speed, sir!!!! Machine Gray?[emoji4]
Mazda weighed the Pros & Cons here, sir. Lightening thru reduced deadening is part of Skyactiv's philosophy & approach. It's not just the bonnet, but the entire car.
You can grab the hood insulator as an accessory from some vendors for not much, but we've seen some who got & gave em away....not because of added weight, but noted higher intake air temps. The insulation can keep your hood cooler, but tends to trap engine bay heat a while longer, too. Lower iATs would definitely be preferred. Oxygen will be denser. Performance, better

Thanks for the reply mga sirs. I also noticed na yung init from the exhaust manifold ay ramdam sa may foot well (idk kung ano tawag dun sa pedal area). Well, as what sir travajante has shared, it is better to radiate more heat away from the engine bay rather than trapping the heat inside.
*travajante: mine is a soul red M3S. Unfortunately that was the only color variant Mazda Alabang have that is still using the pre-excise tax pricing. I am very keen on acquiring/exchanging technical information from a Master like you sir.![]()
Skyactivs are high compression engines. Higher engine temps are expected relative to most naturally aspirated petrol engines out there. Having no deadening/insulation may more be an engineering decision here than economics. Both my 3 & 2 came bare hooded.
Again, grats on the soul red Speed, sir. I was betting on the newer M Gray. Not too many out there. 3s in any color are eye-catching.[emoji4]
Oh, I'm just a Mown3r like you & everyone else here, sir. Stick around, this forum & thread are a rich resource of info & help.
Please share us your pix & plans.[emoji4]

If you're referring to the pedal hinge noise, I honestly did not notice such til I tried lifting my right foot when shifting from brake to gas. My driving habit has always been the same from when I had Driving 101.... rest the right heel constantly on the heel pad as pivot (unless it's fun heel-toe time on a stick). I don't seem to hear anything this way.

I think you're right, it's likely the pedal hinge noise. I could be one of those unlucky ones who have this problem. When the car is on full stop (with park brakes engaged), the noise is really noticeable when the pedal lifts. Compared to older M3, it's really noisy considering that I use the same foot driving style, same to what you have described.
I think the best way to see if this is a defect with my unit is to compare it with other units at the casa. I have already requested a scheduled checkup for this.
Well, what matters most is brake feel. The 3 has good stock brakes...& look who's among the makers of their OE pads....
