You'll pass through part of the "Magilas Trail"( bypass road) and get onto McArthur HIghway at either Rosales or Binalonan.

How good is the road on this trail in terms of maneuverability & speed safety vs mc arthur hiway ?

These are mostly two-lane concrete roads and if you have a fast car you can do pretty good time. There are roads with some rough spots in the Nueva Ecija area but it's not a deal breaker for any vehicle. You just have to be on the lookout for pedestrians, trikes and palay drying activities. Since Mc Arthur Highway is mostly rehabilitated though, its still the better route now as long as it's not a peak travel day or rush hour in the cities you pass through.

The last time i passed maguilas was may 2013, naawa ako sa suspension ng gs ko. Also may parts na under repair. So better just take mac arthur, konti na lang naman parts na traffic like villasis and urdaneta.

Sayang naman... Ganda pa naman sa Magilas when i used to pass it. If i recall correctly, the parts that were starting to deteriorate was the portion between Guimba/Pura and Cuyapo? I remember trying to keep up with a Forester who was probably driving leisurely while my Corolla (with it's roof carrier and all) was often redlining just to keep the fun pace we were both running.

Ang daming road repairs ngayon along the highway, lalo na sa Binalonan and Pozzorubio in Pangasinan. It took me 6 hours to reach Quezon City last night from Baguio City. Useless din ang Magilas trail dahil yung entry point nya ay stop and go traffic.

First time driving to Baguio last Saturday via SCTEX - TPLEX - Gerona - Kennon. Went back the same way albeit via MacArthur.
Masubukan nga un ibang daan pag napagtripan ule umakyat.

Safer to go by Marcos Hiway. We use this everytime we go to Baguio during December.

Same here. Kennon should be fine. I'm thinking more about the status of the roadworks in Pangasinan.

Thanks sa info. Mas malayo lang talaga kasi as compared to Kennon Road.

I'll be monitoring the weather, kung maulan we'll take Marcos hi-way. Last time we went to La Union, from Carmen bridge to Villasis traffic na.

Is this route safe at night? I've taken this route many times but always during the day.

Better take the mc arthur route pag gabi. Although yung incident happened only once in my frequent travel ( mga once a month ) for 2 years.

Thanks. I was more concerned about the possible bad roads in Pangasinan but it's better than risking an incident on the back road at night. I usually leave QC at around 8pm and arrive in Baguio between 12mn to 1am, easy driving (NLEX - Mc Arthur - Kennon).

Driving to Baguio is on my bucket list. It's just that I have this phobia of getting lost, especially when I'm driving alone. Haha.
