I agree with these experienced Bros. "First-timer" is the operative word for you, eminem6480. That was me just a few weeks back. Don't risk it just for the sake of perhaps a quicker trip. It's not like you're just going to be driving on flatlands where you can see miles ahead and can make the necessary adjustments. Better to know the terrain while it's daytime. Once you know what you're up against, then by all means do it in the dark

One factor why night driving in the Philippines is not advisable for those unfamiliar is the utter lack of proper road lane markings, directional signs, and road repair markings. At least during the day, you can see things well and enjoy the sights.

I took Marcos Highway going up to Baguio yesterday. Travel time to reach Governor Pack Road in Baguio City is about the same with the video clip that I took at Kennon Road 3 weeks ago. BTW, travel via Kennon Road is faster now because most of the single lanes have already been opened so there are less obstacles to slow you down.

I suggest sa Marcos highway lalo na kung first timer at hindi maiwasan ang night trip.

If advisable to drive to Baguio at night? Dipende sa skills ng driver at klase ng sasakyan na gagamitin, concern dun ang ilaw at reliability ng sasakyan.

Cats eyes to divide lanes and show the end portions of both lanes would be great. This is the method of lighting up main freeways in the US without spending a single cent on electricity. Wag lang sanang nakawin yung mga cats eye.

Very true. The reason why we did the day trip and we stuck to the main road (MacArthur) after SCTEX is coz we had kids in tow. Since I did not know how the alternate (longer but quicker) route was, and had been warned of the lack of good stopovers by the very same folks who've painstakingly explained the details of the route, I decided to stick to the slower but safer route. It was not really that much slower IMO, but I'm sure the guys who frequent the north will have something to say.

Agree here. I also noticed that they added a little more shoulder space to some of the repaired portions.

Ninanakaw nga... or nasisira ng mga heavy vehicles that run over them continuously.

ingat pala sa mga sharp curves sa marcos hiway, specially when going down, long trailer trucks crawling up usually will eat your lane. be ready to move/ manuever to the shoulder, giveway nalang, pag nabitin mga yun, more likely mai stuck yun.

though it is really advisable to go up baguio in the morning/afternoon for the first time, you should plan to go up baguio during the night time at least once in your lifetime (well, thrice, one for each major highway - marcos, kennon and naguillan)... but if ever you will go there at night, marcos is the best route and my reason is quite personal...

the first time i travelled (riding a bus) to baguio at night, at about 15 km away from the city, you will be mesmerized by the cityscape... A MOUNTAIN FULL OF LIGHTS... parang christmas tree that is magnified a hundredfold... sobrang breath-taking for me... up to now, you will still be amazed at that sight... imagine the eyes of a kid looking at a mountain full of lights for the first time and it will be for a few minutes of watching leading to the tunnel/bridge/flyover... even my kids are still amazed by that up to now...

    Hey Guys,

So how is the Kennon road rehab going? Tapos na ba? Kennon now much quicker to pass than going around to Marcos?

What about the repairs in Tarlac, have they finished a lot off?

    Thanks!

^When i took Kennon the week after you went (going down around lunch time), there was some construction but only in a short portion already. If it remains that way then it's ok-passable already (no more long ques unless it's rush hour).

Repairs in tarlac are finished. Kennon is fully rehabilitated as well. I went back maybe two weeks ago for some work.

Going up I used Naguilian as I came from La Union. That road is nuts. Zig Zag doesnt do it justice hehe.

    Going down I took Kennon.

Spoke with my cuz who went up last weekend. Kennon is okay; Marcos highway is what has some repairs ongoing now.

Yan yung sinabi sa akin ng boss ko when he went up around a month ago (PMA graduation); Marcos had some roadworks near the top while Kennon construction was pretty much less already. I don't know about now though.
