have some insider scoop about Kia.

apparently, it is Korea not the Philippines who wants to jack up the prices. and the they are really fighting over it. that might explain why shipments to the PH is being diverted to other countries.

So that explains why there is a shortage even in Europe. The Denmark link above, for example, explains that cars get sent to Germany instead (kasi mas mahal benta ng kotse sa Germany).

Honestly though, the Picanto is a lovely little car. Especially since CtrlAltDel mentions how good the car is, sulit nga siguro. IMO kahit 400k pa yan I'd consider it fair and reasonable. Yun nga lang, they originally offered it at a low price then they increased it by 50k... tapos wala pang dumarating na unit!

Now, customers aren't stupid. Not on an investment such as a car, not when the price goes up 50k on your waiting-since-forever reservation. I believe Columbian and the Kia dealerships know this too, especially when you're up against the proven Japanese competition.

Then it could be true, it's just Korea sending the cars to more lucrative markets, leaving other less-profitable places such as the Philippines and Denmark with a shortage of cars and continuing price increases.

A comparison of my personal thoughts - Honda City, Toyota Vios, Honda Jazz, Kia Picanto.

City: practical car on paper and in the real-world situation, but it simply looks so horrible I'd rather be driving a hearse than be caught dead in a City (pun intended)! Verdict? Looks horrible, otherwise could have been an excellent car.

Vios: Cute little car. the Picanto is cuter but the Vios is ***ier IMO. However, I don't like the Vios' center gauges, I ESPECIALLY don't like the digital ones, which is actually cost cutting in high-tech disguise !!! Another rant I have with the Vios is that it's damn cramped!. I can't sit in the back seat upright! The first time I rode in the back seat of one of these things I hit my head trying to get out. And I'm only 5'8", dammit, what was the average height of the people who drew this car? Verdict? Great looking car, but poor design compared to the City. Baliktad naman noh?

How about the Honda Jazz? In fact, we have a Honda Jazz. Excellent car, very spacious, responsive, and superb fuel economy. The strange engine note pattern that the CVT makes (relative to a conventional manual or automatic) takes a little getting used to, but I find it rather amusing so yes I do like the notes. I find the seats comfortable, but the ride a bit harsh - our '92 Charade rides noticeably more comfortable than our '04 Jazz (albeit the Charade is noisier). Looks? All the people who saw our Jazz took a look at it! No doubt, it's a great looking car, cute also but I still think Picanto is cuter. My only real complaint about the Jazz is that it's slightly overpriced.

Then the Picanto. First time we saw the Picanto is when we went to a luxury car show at Rockwell. We saw expensive Euro-cars, Audis, BMWs, etc. But the car that got our attention that day wasn't in the show, hell it wasn't a luxury car at all! It was that cute little silver Kia next to our Jazz at the traffic light. It was to be delivered, with that big piece of paper saying "Made in Korea" on the window too. Ironically, among luxury Euro-cars in the show, it was the Korean econocar that was being delivered that got all the attention! I don't have any personal experiences with the Picanto yet, but reviews from many international car sites and personal testimonials (CtrlAltDel around here notably) speak of much improved quality from the Korean manufacturer. All of these reviews turn out positive for the car. Unfortunately, there is greed among either the manufacturer, the dealer, the distributor or maybe two or all of the three. So Picanto prices rise, less profitable markets get less Picantos, and people can't get what they want. Verdict? Car - excellent. Manufacturer/distributor/dealer - swine!

I hope the 2005 model will have a better supply!

1. Granting that its true there is a shortage of Kia cars bec. of other lucrative markets, Columbian should have stopped accepting reservation deposits because they cannot guarantee the delivery at the same price. Columbian knows how many units are arriving and allocate it to their dealers accordingly. After say releasing the first batch, the dealers must advise the consumers that we cannot accept reservation now since we cannot guarantee that the next batch would be the same price.THAT IS THE RIGHT WAY. If we are properly informed, we cannot complain anymore.

What do they do? They accept and accept downpayments only to tell you after waiting for three months that they are changing the price. How will you know what price to pay if they can change it anytime and anyday? Today they quote you 360k and make you wait, by the time they call you they can change it to 500k.

2. Granting that Kia Korea diverts the cars to more lucrative market, all the more we should not buy Kia cars. If Kia doesn't value or looks down on the Philippine market/consumers, then sell your cars somewhere else. We do not need you here.

Well said carlove. Sayang nga talaga yung Picanto, it's a great car. The problem is the people involved in getting the car to the customer (from the manufacturer to the dealer) are all swine.

OT: Hahahahaha di ko inaasahang dito sa Tsikot meron ring nakalaro na ng FS! Rarely has anyone even heard of it. Ngayon binabalik-balikan ko nalang but the series is still very enjoyable. I like the series so much na yan lang ang mga laro kong original (sa states ko pa nga nakuha kahon ko ng FS2 eh)! It's still my favorite game, though medyo disappointing lang ang Silent Threat kasi bitin at minsan masyado mahirap mga missions ng ST (I really, really love FS2). Yun nga lang dead na ang space-sims. They're too complex for the mainstream gamers - in FS2 you use half the keyboard, basic palang siguro yun.

OT (huli na to promise): Ako ewan ko kung ilang beses ko na natapos ang FS2 hehehe... IMO the Descent:Freespace The Great War (FS1) ending was one of the best endings of any videogame na nalaro ko on any platform. FS2 ending was okay, pero yun nga not as good as the FS1 ending - cliffhanger pa, unfortunately FS3 never materialized. I didn't like the Silent Threat ending super bitin. Red Faction's ending felt like the ST ending too, napakabitin (RF was good, but not great - masyadong typical FPS cliche ang kwento).

Back to topic: I'll just wait for the day that the Picanto's supply and price will stabilize. If that will ever happen, that is.

Im a new member of this wiked board. I have read this thread from page 1-55 a few mins (or hours) ago. And I must say, forums like these save the lives of regular joes (pedros) like me. Thanks to all.

My girlfriend and i heard about the picanto last january, and both got excited of the posibilities of getting a car (a brandnew picanto). It was a walk in the clouds, but i kinda knew that there was no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I knew that KIA or the dealers would jack the prices up soon. Wait till this baby is broacasted on national television. Im seeing another 40-50k hike up the prices of all models. Its so sad to be in such pushy economy that bullies its consumers to their liking.

But in fairness to all the bull. Its really a nice looking car. Our friendly Signet agent facilitated a first live encounter with a diamond blue LX earlier this day. Too bad it was on their repair bay and it got its right front hood smashed the hell out of its proportions, but everything else was ok. I like the feel of the front seats. I'm 5'11 yet i was really comfortable.

Well anyways, ya'll know the stories and review of this hot car. I just hope that prices stabilize and more stocks arive, and LETS HOPE TO GOD THAT THEY DONT MAKE TAXI CABS OUT OF THIS BEAUTY. :hippie:

Coming from a Honda owner (the Jazz being a more superior car) Alpha Love's impression of the Picanto was very generous. Thanks, eh-eh Kia should be flattered and I hope should work harder to bing in more of that little sprite to our shores- and still at an attactive price.

Sa simula, parang isang magandang pangarap na punong puno ng paghanga, pag mamahal, at pag asa. Nung nasa unang part pa lang ako ng pagbabasa ng thread na ito (parang first season ng isang koreanovela) na excite ako. It's as if I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, parang nagakaroon ako ng pag asa na magkaroon ng quality car that matches my budget.

Until I reached the middle and later part of this thread where everything came rushing like a tsunami. Napalitan ang lahat ng magandang nararamdaman ko ng galit, poot, at pighati. hehehe.

I just wish na happy ang ending nito.

The ending ended in a tragedy. Kawawa for those who fell in love with the Picanto. Columbian Motors ( the kontrabida ) stabs you in the back and make you pay 50K more.

I was reading the motoring section of Manila Bulletin and I saw a press kit about Kia Picanto. They kept on releasing press statements about that strong points of Picanto, wala namang units!!!
