carGirl,

sipag mo naman, eheheh. Thanks for the info about the latest Picanto prices. I don't want to sound like an apologist for the Kia dealers (those dealers deserve the resentment they get from customers) but in the interest of information, can anyone also post the latest prices of the Toyota Vios or the Honda City so we can compare how much they increased their prices to date from the time when the Picanto was introduced (September, 2004.) That way we can have a better perspective in "judging" the dealers- Kia or otherwise.

For example, in September 2004, Picanto sold for P330th (now P360th);
Vios 1.3E- P558th
City 1.3A- P539th

I read in another forum that Toyota introduced a more basic Vios 1.3J for P588th. If this was correct then the Vios 1.3E would even sell for higher. Correct me if this was wrong info.

My point is, if everyone else was jacking up prices, why would Columbian Motors with their propensity to increase prices be an exemption? But if Toyota and Honda kept their original Vios and City prices to date, then Columbian Motors really sucks, big time!

Based on the info in this thread, the current difference in cost (between P10th and P30th) for a body colored Picanto is just too much in my opinion! It used to be only P5th to body color black parts of the car (November 2004 at Signet Mandaluyong!)

a bare vios 1.3j costs 538k only while the vios 1.3e is still the same at 558k. i think they haven't increased their prices yet since the models came out.

what is the difference between the standard and deluxe picanto? i think the 50k increase of the A/ T picanto is just too much considering they added only body colored bumpers. i'm pulling out my reservation soon. i'm considering getting a honda jazz or just a 2nd hand A/ T civic or corolla. at least, i know what i'm getting into. this price increase of kia will backfire on them for sure.

im sure the picanto is leaps and bounds better than the old pride it replaced but with a 300t price tag, u get what u pay for, and i doubt it would be as reliable after a few years of use.

Thanks for the clarification. I think Picanto dealers are gambling on the price of the car. They're betting on the odds that people would still patronize it despite continuously increasing prices. They're pushing the envelope to see how far they could go and still walk away with a healthy sum of money. They're exploiting the fact that many people can only afford second-hand cars and would only be too happy to buy a brand new car with their second-hand car budget. Buti nalang meron pang ibang options for those who can afford the more expensive cars (Vios and City.)

As for the reliability of a P300th car, I don't worry about it. If it breaks down within 3 years, warranty will cover it. After that period, the car shall have more than paid for itself already considering I drive it 80kms everyday. At nearly 9000km on the odometer, my Picanto is still an excellent performer.

My advice to potential Kia buyers, go for something else na lang. The new prices are no longer attractive to warrant the risks.

Work a little harder and go for Honda City or Toyota Vios. Better service, better showroom, better parts support, better dealers, better resale value, better car. The best, no Columbian Motors.

i just saw a red picanto last night (no plates yet).

i noticed that the paintjob on the previously black-colored bumpers is very crude (backyard painters can do a much better job than them).

actually, that's what we've noticed. hindi maganda ang finish nya, kahit yung mismong body, hindi din maganda ang paintjob, parang tinipid or something

cheap car. Will warranty cover the headaches, stress, and medicines you will need after 3 years?

i saw an online article in the past that said one new kia car failed miserably in the us crash testing, setting the lowest score ata ever, and it looked like the picanto.

is it true? just curious. lost the link eh.

here it is...

Kia Picanto: The Picanto performed badly, only doing just enough to merit its three star rating. This is extremely disappointing for a new model in a market segment where other manufacturers have made major improvements in recent years.
However, the car protected its child occupants well, although the protection it gave to pedestrians was poor.
Kia decided to fund the testing of a car with side impact airbags, which are an option in some parts of Europe. The results for this are shown below but not included in the car’s overall scores. The results improved on the standard car’s but a door opened in the test.

Hehe. Ganyan na ganyan din ang crash test result ng Pajero ko at ng Patrol ni Ungas.

most cars now , malambot yung harap to absorb impact. yung upuan sa harap, buo pa , buhay pa driver niyan , if this test is for 100km/h accepatable na, pero kung for 20km/hr, teka teka.

In the front-impact test, the car is driven head-on into a deformable barrier at 40 mph; in the side-impact test, a trolley with a deformable front is crashed into the driver's side of the car at 30 mph, and in the recently introduced head-protection test (also known as the pole test), a pole is accelerated sideways through the driver's side of the car at head level, at 18 mph. The pedestrian tests are designed to replicate accidents involving both children and adults, hit by the front of a car as if they were run over while crossing the road. Wired-up crash-test dummies provide information about the levels of force that hit them and the areas of 'injury', enabling researchers
40 mph = 64 kph
30 mph = 48 kph
18 mph = 29 kph

Eheheh.

Mazdamazda, thanks for the report on the Picanto crash test. Wow! Akalain mo, cheap, entry-level Kia car kina-crash test na. Just the mere fact that it was mentioned at all in the US crash test is an improvement big enough! That's not something you can say for the much, much more expensive Crosswinds, Revos, and Adventures, can you?

Well, cheap or not, poor paintjob or good, I have no regrets whatsoever with my purchase of a Picanto. It's my family car and we are very pleased with it. It's either that or I remained commuting and endured long lines waiting for a sardine-packed ride in FX taxis, jeepneys and really stinking (no offense) buses!
