Cyberian reporting for duty mga sir. Sorry for the long absence, got tired with my Kia Rio5 fc problem.
The 1st ECU trouble shoot to correct supposed a/c load didn't improve my fc yield of 5.5km/l ave and therefore a fail.
The 2nd ECU tweak to correct the supposed low voltage charge coming from the alternator resulting to inadequate electric voltage supply to the spark plug which will affect fuel burn, also failed as I am still having a horrible poor fc. The full tank yield after the said casa service is 5.35km/L!
I tried p500 worth of XCS fuel (9.2L) from empty on a City driving at night where traffic is bare minimum and the fc is 6.05KM/L. Compare that with my friends' city fc: 2012 hyundai Sonata 2.4L Premium ed. - 6km/l, or 2012 hyundai elantra 1.6 A/T - 14.7km/L, or Honda civic 1.8 A/T FD - 8km/l best, 6.5km/l worst, etc. and my Rio5 is really a shame to own fc wise.
During morning engine start and idle there is a lot of engine valve noise like diesel idling but only finer and more rapid but once engine temperature begin to rise to normal the valve noise disappears. However, during hot days or if the car is driven more than 15 minutes th engine somewhat losses power like driving with a 5 passengers plus cargoes on the trunk but in reality there is only 1 passenger plus driver. The engine growls a lot and low pick-ups during acceleration. I get scared when stock at traffic on uphills with full passenger loads because the car losses so much power that it will only creep it's way up until it gets momentum. Passengers got scared also and laughs afterwards. It's a complete embarassment!
I emailed my recent performance and fc feedbacks to my Kia SA as per request by tech service in-charge so he can forward it to CMC for yet again another fix solution. I also informed them that I may be forced to file a complaint with DTI or through legal remedy whichever is convenient should they fail to fix my dirt poor fc asap.
Reporting my recent FC:
38.6 liters of Total Protec
Eco Off
3 light traffuc days due to holidays, travelling at 30 km/h minimum
271 kilometers travelled
FC = 7.02 km / liter
I am just pass 1,100 km odo and given example above by cyberian. Really shameful FC for the Rio HB. tsk tsk
Hi guys, just about to seal the deal for a Rio 1.4 EX AT Sedan this week.
Buti FC ang usapan dito because I checked into this thread with exactly those matters in mind. Like:
1) What seems to be the best fuel to use for the Rio?
2) What km/L should I expect to hit considering I'l be driving from Pasig -> Makati -> The Fort in the morning for work, and then The Fort -> Makati -> Pasig going home at night?
Any Rio 1.2 users here? Parang mostly hatch yung meron dito eh. Haha..
Ang hatchback kasi ay 4-speed matic... AT vs MT pa lang sure mas matipid ang MT... So far ang alam ko is FC issue is only for Hatch... But FC ng Hatch vs Sedan AT di ko na alam
hi cyberian tagal mo nga nawala dito kala ko nga nabigyan ka na ng bagong sportage ng casa mo in exchage sa rio5 mo,anyway grabe na yan rio5 mo lalo yata napasama yun twice inayos yun ECU mo. better address your complain sa website ng kia international check the website kia.com then click contact us sa may banda ibaba sa kanan, about sa rio5 ko same pa din manual computation ko last fill up ko is 7.3km/liter lang iba sinasabi sa dashboard cluster ang reading eh 12.5km/100L. right now im experimenting try ko A/C auto climate at 23 degrees for a week then check FC.
Thanks for the info, i'll do that next week. So far, my local Kia service and SA is very accommodating and appear quite serious in attending to my concerns but unfortunately CMC recommended fixes and suggestions just didn't work... yet. I'll give them time to reply and come out with a solution/fix.
Your 7.3km/L is already a dream for me having an ave. of only 5.5km/L city drive although performance wise it is still not so good fc coming from a small 1.4L sub-compact car.
I wonder how the Rio5 performs on a Petron Blaze 100 octane. Too bad it's not available here in Cagayan de Oro city.
Petron Blaze nga ba ang best for the Rio? Nung tinanong kasi namin yung dealership, yung ang sabi nila eh. Pero based on experience here, kamusta naman?
Kailangan ba talaga high octane?
What would be the best gas to use?
I'm having my Rio delivered tomorrow morning kasi. Para lang alam ko kung anong ikakarga ko![]()
Mahal naman na gas yan para sa econo car...it defeats the purpose on why someone gets an econo car.

CONGRATS to your new ride, mate!
So far based on experience, a full tank of Shell Nitro V-racing 93+ RON resulted to engine "knocking sound" during acceleration on at least 4 occasions and it took a third of my next full tank of Caltex Gold 95+ RON to flush it out the system. I am using either the Caltex Gold or the Petron XCS, both 95+ RON rating. If only Blaze 100 RON is available in this part of the country I am very much interested of using it. Who knows it will give me a better yield both on engine performance and fc. But oliver1013 is right, it defeats the purpose of owning an econo car.
There is a higher chances that poor fc is more apparent in the hatchback than in the sedans based on local and international threads. I am still hoping Kia will come out with a fix the same way Hyundai "cured" the all-new Accent fc problem in the past.
