Indeed, your figure is possible and I observed it myself just this 2:AM (Zero traffic congestion, traffic lights not functioning) on a brief run to the bus terminal on the outskirt of the city via the highway. INSTant Fuel Economy bar is around 8-10, average speed 65kph. It tempted me to go further to the next town about 20km away but I don't want to distort the city fc results as this is my second full tank evaluation.

It's now currently at 13.8L/100km on a 47.2km odometer run (around 14km of that is highway as stated above) and about 80% (slightly above 3/4 fuel level) on the tank left. I will update my fc report again soon.
Thanks sir.. hope you will get better FC next time.

pero dapat pacheck mo din sir sa CASA siguro. baka kelangan reset ECU. parang masyadong mababa FC mo kahit sa city driving. or try niyo sir magpalit din ng gamit na fuel.

Not at this time but definitely on my 3rd full tank. I need to get the average fc of the 2 full tanks on city so I can have at least a reliable baseline fc and comparison. If ever the 2nd full tank still get a high fuel consumption and the 3rd full tank without ECO ON yields lower fc then in my opinion having an "ECO" mode is all but a hype. But that's still speculation at this time.

Besides, ECO is tauted as a fuel efficient "computer assisted, super-efficient mode to maximize your fuel efficiency" and environment friendly experience in your car. We'll see about that soon.

The CASA SA already scheduled a thorough check on this unit come 1st PMS. I am hoping the break-in period will loosen the engine a bit to a more stable operation with improve fc.

So far XCS 95+ octane pa lang gamit ko dahil nearest location. Maganda naman feedback ng XCS. Shell unleaded 93+ octane meron nagbigay negative feedback I think regarding knocking sound ba yon so I'll stay away at the moment. Blaze is also recommended but very few stations lang meron available nyan here in Cagayan de Oro City. The 2 partial fill-up (9.2L or P500 each) I posted earlier was from Caltex.

Very interesting comparison - Car and Driver Nov 2011. Kia rio hatch vs Honda Jazz vs Toyota Yaris vs Nissan Versa vs Chevy Sonic vs Hyundai Accent

Kia Rio got perfect on the features department but one of the worst on power and acceleration. As usual Honda Jazz dominates.

*reuelc: Thanks for the heads-up mate!

"Of course, the larger rubber might also have done minor damage to observed mpg, which, at 28, was the lowest in this group." - Car & Driver.

Well, no surprise there but at least the Rio5 U.S. version has the 1.6 138hp engine of the local Elantra. Mine has only 1.4 displacement with a 1.6 fuel consumption.

Kia should also offer a 1.2L variant of the hatch, with trimmed features Like what they did to the Sorento and Sportage.

and while theyre at it, do it sa Picanto na din :D

The price difference between A/T and manual Sorento and Sportage is huge. P400,000+ on the Sorento and P200,000+ on the Sportage!

It would be even better to bring in the CRDi 1.1 & 1.4 Rio5. They will dominate the market even if the price ranges from 800-900k. Just look at the numbers:

    1.4 Rio5 (Kia Pride):

    Engine size: 1.396cc.
Horsepower: 90 hp to 4000 rpm.
    Horsepower RPM: 1750-2750 rpm.
    Top Speed: 172 km/h
    0-100km/h: 14.2 seg.
    Fuel Economy: 4,1 L/100.
    CO2: 109 g/km.
    Gearbox: 6 speed manual.
    Weight: 1.239 kg.
    Fuel tank capacity: 43 liters.
    CX Aerodynamic coefficient: 0,30.

Although the engine is a bit slow in acceleration but who's complaining if the fuel economy tops at 23.4km/L! It's more tuned to economy rather than performance. The Rio5 1.1 engine even has better fuel economy than that.

regarding the fc of my 2012 ex mt, it is not impressive. 6km/l lang. i live here in davao. short distances travel ko. 3mos na sa akin sedan and less than 700km odo. naka 4 full tanks na ako. to console myself, isip ko na lang na ang horsepower ng kotse ko ay pang 1600 o mahigit pa. yung ibang 1600cc engines ay barely exceeding the 100hp mark nga eh. so i guess ito ang trade off. hwag lang kakatok. so guys, if you get miffed by more than P200 worth of gasoline in your fc, don't buy this car. but if you can settle for new design, gorgeous dashboard, stable handling and cavernous interior, then go ahead, get one now. and when i drove this car on highway, i got 15km/l. do not believe rightaway claims of good city fc. mga ahente most likely sila.

Your average city fc is about the same as mine and I thought I was alone in this observation. It's good to read honest and frank owners regarding their true fc.

The hatch, although shorter, is 30 kgs. heavier than your EX sedan and in this regard coupled with my A/T config made me think that my highway fc won't be as bright as yours. I will be posting my highway fc soon after city evaluation.

In my observation also, the Rio5 consumes a lot on idle and during stop and go sa traffic/intersections. Because of this, I avoid waiting in the car with engine running even on a short period of time the way I used to sa Pajero, Starex and Patrol- diesels are fc kings on idle.

Kia is an affordable quality brand for the masses and Hyundai as a more upscale brand to Hyundai Group. In other countries, Kia variants are about 20% cheaper than the Hyundai counterpart but our local Kias are very expensive that it priced itself out of competition. Look at Kia Forte- a civic, altis, masda3, elantra segment counterpart but priced at the level of an entry level sonata! The latest gen Sorento is more expensive than Hyundai counterpart Santa Fe. Top of the line Sorento 4x4 in the States tops around $34k (P1.5M-) but ours is around P2.1M! Isn't this one of the reasons that sales figures of the Sorentos is not quite the same as the last generation, eh?

It's a good thing the Rios are priced just right, affordable and full featured in this segment.

    Noticed my mistake.

Should be "Marami ang difference sa features" pala. Sorry. The base model Sportage have the same features as the base model Tucson. Sa Sportage at Rio sumakto na pricing nila.

    The rest, halatang overpriced.

Your observation was on target. I raised these overprice issues to Kia a long time ago when they launched the all new Sorento and Kia Forte. To me the Forte pricing was a disaster, killing the sales of this beautiful car .

The Sportage Manual is priced at P1.020M here in Cagayan de Oro inclusive of shipping. Have I known the fc of the rio suck I should have grab the Sportage manual- having the same fc ng rio5 sa city.

Had a short ride from la salle to robinsons manila on a new Rio 1.2 LX taxi last friday and here are my observations:

-ride is okay, quite similar to a Vios.
-very modern ang design and feel.
-in typical Hyundai-Kia fashion, yung rear window medyo maliit and mataas.
-rear visibility is not quite good for me.
-maganda yung dashboard and the optitron gauges look nice.
-the engine stalled twice. Di pa siguro gamay ni manong drayberz.

For the price of 588k? 599k? Lol I don't know. It definitely has more features than a Vios base (at 584k) and it looks better, too! (than the Vios base variant only ha) Wala nga lang airbags.

Meron na ba mga naka-1.2LX dito sa Tsikot? Share naman your FCs o. And how's the engine performance? Same engine kasi sila ng i10 and dun ok na ok sya. Yung FC nga lang ng A/T

    Thanks!

ganun ba tlaga kelangan i-break-in. hindi na ata uso ngaun ganyan. nun bago sta. Fe ko nag 10km/liter ako pero after 5000km naging 8km/liter for 5 years consistent.

anyways, i doubt if the Kia Rio sedan will improve its FC, kasi mas malaki pa body nyan sa accent eh. yun kia rio hb naman tingen ko talagang malakas sa gas kasi aside from A/T eh it has 17" rims.

yan na ang figures nyan. kung improve man yan baka +1km lang. ang masakit dyan sa rio wala knocking and low power problems, bad FC na.
