Hi guys, just about to seal the deal for a Rio 1.4 EX AT Sedan this week.

Buti FC ang usapan dito because I checked into this thread with exactly those matters in mind. Like:

    1) What seems to be the best fuel to use for the Rio?

    2) What km/L should I expect to hit considering I'l be driving from Pasig -> Makati -> The Fort in the morning for work, and then The Fort -> Makati -> Pasig going home at night?

Mahal naman na gas yan para sa econo car...it defeats the purpose on why someone gets an econo car.

In general po ba, how does this FC of the A/T Rio compare to the FC of other A/T subcompacts like the Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent, Honda City and Ford Fiesta?

At so far nakukuha ko fc using manual computatio is 7.5-8km/l pero mixed driving ako, about 70 city 30 hway.

But it's still your call in the end

After almost 3 months of asking and observing threads about Rio Hb fc problem, nagdecide pa rin ako kumuha ng Rio Hb. Mga second week of september ko makukuha. I think ill be driving 80% highway, 20% city.
Almost same lng problem sa atin.

And sana naman updated version.hehe

Congrats! We look forward to your positive experience with d Rio5 soon!

In the event your unit comes with the normal acceptable fc for this model, then it would be a positive development and will indeed bring hope to the less fortunate owners of Rio "gas guzzler edition"- that a fix is definitely and realistically coming.

Although hoping not so but should it has the same fc problem, well, welcome to the club mate!

Thanks Sir. I'm very positive that Kia will address this fc issue. Kya in spite of the problem, kumuha pa rin ako.

Thanks sir Rio5. But, according po sa inyo sir Rio5, may malaking improvement. And syempre mga driving habits and break-in din daw.

Maybe they fitted rio5 a/t with hi-speed gears ? They dont pull well driving through high slopes but the run fast in planes, like the old bmw's are fitted with. Slow on the accel but once they get speed its hard slowing down lol

    Nagpafull tank ako ngayon gabi..

    273.2 kms ÷ 33.062 liters
    = 8.26 km/l

    Apx 60/40 city w traffic/hway
    Caltex gold
    ODO 1800
    ECO ON
33 psi tire pressure, last i checked
Most of the time 2 pax lang only

Malakas ang consumption na yan chief, considering its a small engine.
I have a 1.8L GLS elantra and it can easily do 8.5 to 9.5 km/l on purely mandaluyong-makati-fort traffic ...

    Latest on my end:

    30 liters of Petron XCS
    Total Mileage: 195.1 kilometers

Fuel consumption: 6.5 km / liter

I am already filing a complaint now thru the kia website and thru emails I gathered from Kia Philippines.

Guys, I suggest you document well your Rio fc problem by taking pics (I used Galaxy Note on all pics taken) of your instrument display readings every time you fill a full tank and also keeping the receipt of the gas station. I also took pics of pump readings to be sure because receipts are now printed in thermal paper and will eventually fade. I archived it according to each full tanks with corresponding trip computer readings from resetting trip A/B, fuel gauge both empty and full, distance traveled, to estimated distance after fill, etc.

This way if push comes to shove and Kia cant fix this problem at an appropriate time then I have hard evidences to backup my complaints to the DTI (Consumer Welfare Division), specifically Article 100 of the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Title III of the said Article looks interesting. I was told by Kia Sales Agents on various occasions the Rio5 fc is 8-9km/L city. Whereas the Rio Sedan 1.4 A/T is at 9-10km/L. At one time my SA told me to expect 7-8km/L the highest fc (lower is better for fc) on city drive around Cagayan de Oro City on normal traffic. My real fc since delivery was averaging 5.5km/L on 10 full tanks already!

Common Kia, even taxi drivers driving Toyota Altis 1.6L does not consume fuel that bad. They're averaging 10km/L around the City with the usual traffic, and I on the other hand, avoid long traffic as much as possible by planning my routes and know where the usual bottle necks are at any time of the day. Besides, local Kia had the car tested already and validated my poor fc.

I don't want to elevate this matter into a legal action but I am prepared to do so should the fc problem persist and remain unresolved.

Local Kia outlet is providing me good service so far but this fc problem is beyond their technical knowledge or know how. I hope CAC will come out with a solution asap because I am running out of patience. Nakakhiya, I got laughed at with my poor fc. My wife and I started arguing why we ever bought the Rio5 now that we realized the high costs of running this SMALL car. We should have bought the Orlando instead since the Bank already issued P.O. to Chevy dealer and Orlando fc was reportedly 8km/L city (dealer tested actual driving Cagayan de Oro City with normal traffic). Granted even at worst fc of 6-7km/L, ok pa rin since it's bigger (7-seater) and has larger engine (1.8L).

Just this morning, it took me a minute and a half to start the Rio5. It caught me by surprise after I pushed the start button and about 15 sec long no engine start so I pushed the button again to kill the starter and prevent it from overheating. It took me about 10 tries, each about 8 sec long before I finally got it running. The tank is 1/4 full. It's Sunday so no Kia service to call.

I just remembered that my 12 yr. old Starex Turbo-diesel always started in the morning even without applying the heater, one click lang.

Got a call from Columbia and my dealer acropolis.. mabilis naman ang response nila in fairness kasi friday night ako nag-email eh.

With a fast action from columbia and my dealer, i give them a THUMBS UP!

hey guys those of you na nag email sa kia.com expect nyo na may tatawag sa inyo after 2 days either sa CAC or sa CASA nyo.ako tumawag sa akin casa ko asking kung kelan daw ako available fo the fc test. and heres my answer to them, i wont let my car undergo any test and basta ninyo galawin ECU baka mag ka leche leche tulad ng kay CYBERIAN ano pa bang test ang gagawin ninyo eh ako na na nag sasabi sa inyo na 7km per liter lang ang average fc ko at iba lumalabas sa cluster may difference na 1km/100L. sabi ko mayroon kayong unit for test drive kung gusto nyo makuha fc full tank nyo until first click then drive kayo until maka 50km then full tank again until first click then compute ninyo FC ,hindi naman bago sa inyo na may fc problem ang rio5. kung mayroon kayong dapat gawin eh solusyunan ninyo fc problem using your test drive unit and kung alam nyo na then tawagan nyo ko to have the adjustment made.and best na gawin ninyo magpadala kayo ng kia engineer from korea mismo. so guys advise ko lang kung fc test lang gawin sa car ninyo nasa inyo na yan pero kung may gagalawin sa ECU think twice, baka matulad kay cyberian
