Sir, is it necessary to abide by this rule?

Kasi I've been using Shell Fuel Save for over a week (which has an octane rating of 93 iirc) and I haven't experienced any problems with my car so far.

    Nope, not necessarily.

It is the recommended rating lang naman. nasa atin parin kung susunod.

^ I see. Thanks! So based on that, would you recommend that I shift to Petron XCS or Shell Nitro (both RON 95) even if I'm not experiencing any problems with Shell Fuel Save?

I finally got my Rio Hatchback last week. Sa may mga IOS: ipad or iphone, try nyo app na Road Trip to monitor and record your fc manual computation. You could also monitor your average expenses as to P/km. Very helpful.. Pati MMDA App

    ODO: 246km
    8.4L/100KM (11.90km/L)
    2000-3000 rpm
    Caltex Gold

    Manual computation.
Mixed: tomas Morato w/ medium traffic --> katipunan w/ light traffic --> marcos hway w/ light-medium traffic --> Antipolo proper w/ medium traffic --> junction w/medium Traffic --> Rosario Pasig medium to heavy traffic

So far so good pa naman. Honestly I'm a bit pessimistic when I got my ride bec I was really expecting for a bad fc(after observing all the fc problem threads for 2-3 months here in tsikot and other countries). I try to plan my route and check for MMDA traffic updates. Pati I do observe my driving habits.
Hopefully patuloy na sanang gumanda itong fc (keeping my fingers cross kasi it's too early to tell or conclude)Hindi ko alam kung updated version na ba itong hatchback.

congrats composite on your new ride,to get the actual FC try mo manual computation dont rely sa display sa cluster natin its not accurate.full tank ka then use it till you reach 50km or more then full tank uli and compute mo,sana nga may ok na mga rio5 unit ngayon ng maayos na din yun first batch.

FYI Rio owners, I'll be keeping track of my fuel consumption sa Fuel Consumption Database thread. I started with this post and will update for each trip I make hanggang magsawa ako mag-monitor ng fc :D lol.

FUEL - What fuel is loaded in my tank
KM REMAIN - estimate of how many km the car can still travel based on the amount of gas in the tank (from the display)
ODO - odometer reading (from the display)
T.HRS - trip travel time (in hours; from the display)
T.MINS - trip tavel time (in mins; from the display)
TRIP (KM) - distance of trip (from the display)
AVE KPH - average speed of trip (from the display)
MANUAL KPH - manual computation of average speed (travel distance divided by travel time)
L/100KM - average fuel consumption during the trip (from the display)
KM/L - conversion of the fuel consumption to km/L
MANUAL KM/L - distance travelled since last full tank divided by liters of gas needed to refill to full tank

After doing 4 trips, with controlled eco driving until 2k rpm, i got average consumption for the following:

    7.09km/l (heavy traffic)
    7.57km/l (moderate traffic)
    8.09km/l (normal traffic)
    13.89km/l (combined traffic, mostly highway)

Bottomline, bawal lumagpas ng 2k rpm if we want to get the best FC. Only problem with that requirement, bawal na ang "sporty" at "aggressive" driving. Dahil maliit lang makina, parang pagong to accelerate without crossing the 2k rpm.

Applying some principles above, here is my latest FC:

    15 liters Petron Blaze 100
    Odo: around 1,800++ km.
    Eastwood-Makati-Intramuros-Makati-Eastwood, rush hour traffic
    Reading: 105.4km
    FC: 7.03 km/liter

I asked the CAC representative to inform me ASAP if there are ECU updates for the Rio so that I can further improve my FC.

Around 2 pesos per liter yung difference eh, which means approx. +250PHP per month on fuel if I use the Nitro+ Racing over the XCS.

    Anong opinion niyo Rio owners?

They said something seemed to be wrong with the computer and the car had to be left sa casa because kahit na ma-start nila at mauwi ko, baka the following day naman hindi ko din ma-start.

So I had no choice but to leave the car at Kia BGC.

I just picked up the car again an hour ago and they explained to me that they found a "cluster error" sa ECU or something like that.

Tinanong ko hindi ba dapat chineck-up nila yung unit before releasing it... so what could have happened between then and now (12 days) to have caused the error?

If ever though, where/how can we find out what the error code means?

So makikita mo talaga yun graph ng before and after ng pagkabit ng unichip.

Like what nicky said, 1st and 2nd gear are very long.

hi c_cube maybe i would agree with you about no need to tell the owner sa upgrade ng ECU for PMS,pero iba naman situation natin eh lahat ng unit nila may problem sa FC,and hindi naman kaila sa kanila na ang dami ng nag complain sa kanila.that is why they should do something about it,to stay competative.
kung ayaw nilang dumami complains they should be honest sa mga potential buyer nila ng rio5,tell them straight to their face when ask about FC na 7km lang or less sa city driving.
usually this is the first questions ask ng mga buyer ng auto diba, kung anu-ano pa kasing paliguy ligoy na sagot.
about us owners no need na mag meet para i-raise ang concern,i think we should just press them na gawan nila ng paraan problema. and napaka simple lang gawin nila eh tawagan nila kia korea at sabihin problema
