my LX SWB manual tranny has logged 2800kms. I previously owned a 2000 Millenium Starex which I replaced with an Innova G in 2005. I would say the new Kia Carnival far exceeded my expectations comparing it with my previous rides.I especially like the more comfortable ride (car like), lesser engine noise which is almost like driving a gasoline engine. Its size is easy to maneuver, its interior space is just right for my family of 6 (4 kids). The engine is more powerful and going to the third row is not a hassle. I previously wanted the new starex with CRDI SVT but after test driving it, it was too big for me . It is actually a litte longer than the new Grandia base model. But I found its engine smooth and powerful. The Innova is ok but it lacks power and has a noisier engine. The third row is also not easily accessible and lacks adequate space to sit comfortably. My kids rarely go to the third row because of this. Over all the new Carnival gives the best bang for the buck IMHO. This is my first Korean made vehicle and my friends actually discouraged me from getting it. I am glad I made the right decision. Korea cars , Hyundai and KIA have actually arrived to give serious competition to the market leaders.

Isn't your previous Starex a Korean made vehicle too?

Yes my previous Starex is Korean made. My mistake and thanks for the correction. As I said , the newer models have definitely improved to deserve a second look from prospective buyers.

I tried to remove the second and third row seats of my LX SWB and to my surprise, they could be easily removed by pulling a lever at the bottom of the seat and literally carrying them out. However, the seats are quite heavy and you may need extra hands to carry them. Putting them back again is as easy as removing them. I noticed that the second row can also slide a bit forward-backward, but the third rows can really slide all the way back.
One thing that annoys me is the alarm system. It is too sensitve. Does anyone know if this could be reprogrammed to make it lesss sensitive? TIA for any info.

the LX alarm is not a kia oem .. you can call winterphine to correct the problem. Regarding the sliding door. if that is electronic, please go back to your dealer and they know how to fix it..

I called up winterpine and was able to talk to a technician. He said there is a control module for the alarm which is usually located under the steering wheel. You can adjust the sensitivity of the alarm by turning a nut in the module using a small screwdriver.clockwise to increase sensitivity and counter clockwise to decrease sensitivity. The red switch you will see is to turn the alarm off.

*gradestan.. its a good thing that you problem had been resolved. The EX variant alarm is only an upgrade option for the keyless entry. The first few batches had only keyless entry and no anti-thef option.. Buti na lang winterphine and columbian decided to design a module that can be fiited in the EX variant.

I bought my 7 leatherette seatcovers for my LX at ACE Hardware Cubao. I got the color gray which matches my original fabric seats. The material is German leatherette and am told it is the softest and most expensive. They charge me 8,200 pesos but since SM was on Sale, they gave me a 20% discount so it went down to 6600plus. The brand is RL. I still have to get them and have them fitted though. For 5 seats it would definitely cost lest.

I boought a 2008 kia carnival ex swb laST JUNE 2008. it's my first time to drive the carnival out of town this week. the ride was great. engine was powerful, however my brakes began to develop a problem gradually. when i hit the brakes even a tap, especially on corners during high speed, the whole thing started to vibrate.(steering, body..transmission...etc.) im having it checked tommorow. hope it's not a factory defect.

I also have a carnival ex LWB and just recently experienced this braking problem when driving at high speeds (around 100-140km/h). Bought it last september 2007. Checked other forums on kia carnival and found out that it is due to a warped front rotor. Has anyone else experienced this too? Can anyone confirm if it's actually the front rotor? thanks.
