Good morning sirs!

I am kindly in need of your help.
Our Carens (08 EX/AT) does not rev past 3k rpm.
We have already performed the following steps:
- Check Turbo and Hose Connections - Working fine
- Cleaned EGR
- Cleaned Air Filter
- Replaced Fuel Filter

Given these steps, the revving issue still did not go away.
Now we brought the Carens to Kia Pasig, and it came up with an error with the Mass Airflow Sensor.
However, we test fitted another MAF sensor from another Carens of the same model, the error could not be deleted still.

Any thoughts on what else to check? The casa is asking me to leave the Carens with them for a few days for a complete diagnosis, but to be honest, I do not trust the SA given his rude and arrogant demeanor on how he handled my case.

Sir your Carens is in limp mode..there might be some faulty sensors somewhere. But from experience, i suspect that it MIGHT be caused by a dirty or a faulty egr..

Since nalinisan nyo na ang EGR and checked the turbo hose, etc.
You can try other casa to look into your rev problem, MAF sensor error code.
I always bring my 2010 Carens at Kia Congressional for PMS and repair. So far, In my experience they are okay.
You can give it a try.

I believe not yet. I was trying to request Kia Pasig to do so but to no avail. They said they needed to clear the errors first which I do not understand. Because I believe some errors can be erased through an ECU update.
Anyway, the SA there is very arrogant and snobbish. I felt his discrimination the first time I spoke to him since I got the Kia 2nd hand and I was refusing to leave my Carens for diagnosis without being given a definite timeline. All he said was "wag nyo kami madaliin if papadiagnose ninyo sa amin".

I also shared that since I have been researching the net and quoted experiences of our fellow tsikoteers in this forum, sabihan ba naman ako ng "wag kayo maniwala dyan sir, hindi totoo iba dun sa mga nabasa nyo". How's that for arrogance?! He simply refused to listen and insisted on a full diagnosis done by his team.

I was thinking of bringing my Carens to Kia Marcos Hiway the on going to Cogeo. Do you think there would be more knowledgeable and able individuals there? I simply refuse to do business with a Casa whose fundamentals of Customer Service are not established.

Pasalamat siya hindi niya sa akin ginawa yun kungdi makakatikim siya ng "EH K*P*L KA PALA EH!" na maririnig ng buong showroom at service area.


Look for another dealer. If you're quite knowledgeable, try cleaning your MAF sensor first by spraying it with electrical contact cleaner (do NOT use carb cleaner or anything like WD40), air-dry it then have the CEL cleared. If the CEL reappears after a day or two, then the MAF sensor may really be faulty. If your Carens goes out of limp mode and runs back to normal, then the cleaning+CEL reset did the trick.

If chances are, you live near the Bicutan area, I can help you out with the clearing of the CEL as long as our schedules meet. It only takes less than 5 minutes to do so.

PS: I don't charge. Just happy to help people out.

may time na naexperience ko yung ayaw umakyat ng rpm beyond 3k (actually nasa 2,900 rpm to be exact) tapos paakyat pa ako ng Kennon road. Pansin ko gumagapang talaga ang takbo. Ni hindi maka overtake. Ang ginawa ko in off/on ko yung makina tapos balik na ulit sa dating takbo.

Try mo rin pala pa update software sa ibang Casa (i.e. Kia Pampanga) baka sakali makatulong sir. Huwag ka madiscourage dahil lang sa isang nagmamagaling na technician.

OT: sa Bonifacio street ako sir.. ikaw siguro yung nakikita kong Carens dito sa Baguio

It would have been easier kung naging ganun na umiilaw kaso wala talaga e though it works during pre starting routine. Turns off individually, walang indication na "daya" or hooked up to other lights.
Btw, for reference here are the errors na lumabas when I had my Carens scanned in Pasig:

P0101 Mass OR Volume Air Flow Circuit Range
P0113 Intake Air Temp. Sensor 1 Circuit High Input
P0234 Turbocharger/Supercharger Overboost Condition
P0504 - Brake Switch A/B Correlation

of these 4 errors, we were able to delete the last two, but the Mass OR Volume and the Intake Air Temp Errors still persisted inspite having tried to delete them twice. Bumabalik talaga. Funny thing is,the CEL is off. (BTW CEL is totally normal, works and lights and turns off as expected during pre start routine.

Since these two errors are persistent, do take a closer look at IATS.
Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) is installed inside the Mass Air Flow Sensor and detects the intake air temperature.
For more information on how to diagnose your IATS and the diagram on how to measure resistance on the IATS terminal. You may need to have an account and login to KGIS or kiatechinfo.com go to Service Material --> Service Info, choose Rondo for Car Model.

Hi mga Sir. I'm leaning towards getting a pre-owned Carens soon (6-speed Manual). Based on backread, major issue ang turbo on some units. Any specific things that i need to watch out during test drive to ensure that the turbo of the unit i will purchase is in OK condition? Aside from turbo, anything else i need to check specific to common Carens issue/problems?

Also, my wife is adamant that we get an adventure instead. I think i did my best in explaining na the advantages of Carens (better drive, safety features, FC) pero she still has thr KIA STIGMA with her. Any other explanation i can give her to sway her mind. Kulit na e. ;)

When you do a test drive, check for acceleration, the turbo kicks in around 1800-2000rpm and you should notice yung smooth acceleration.

You may also check for some noise when pressing the throttle pedal, yung "ugong" is getting more audible, it is a common issue with Carens, that problem can be fixed by replacing the compressor pulley bearing.

hello guys! I'm back from a long hybernation I noticed na my turning 7year old Carens (LX MT) is hirap humatak at times. Then last Saturday, my husband used the car and may parang malakas na tunog nung nag accelerate siya ang maraming black smoke ang lumabas. Hinala ni hubby baka timing belt and dapat ng mapalitan mga air filter, etc. Due na for 60k PMS (59,950 current mileage) so tumawag ako sa KIA Pasig and nawindang ako sa presyo ng timing belt, tumataginting na P36,510. May promo daw sila ngayon. If ipagawa ko ngayon, the parts and labor will cost me P28,975. Laglag na naman ako sa upuan!

So guys, dapat na nga bang palitan ang timing belt and pikit mata ko na lang bayaran yung amount na yun? Have you experienced this? Dapat ba sa casa ko ipa-check or meron kayong alam na reputable place where I can bring my car.

Pagkakaalam ko KIA and Hyundai recommend the timing belt to be changed at 70k kms so malapit na nga yan. Try inquiring from goodgear pasay muna kung magkano ang original na timing belt. Masyadong taga yan sa 36k. Dapat nasa below 4k lang yan and original/OEM na.

Yes, replace all filters and have the EGR cleaned as well. Alam ko meron ding gumagawa sa goodgear kung PMS rin lang naman.

nung nagpa quote ako timing belt replacement nasa 25k, that was last year mga september ata, so since may promo sila ngayon dapat bumaba pa, e di balewala din pala yang promo na yan

btw, ano pong malakas na tunog habang nag accelerate, na-experience ko yung habang nag a-accelerate e ang lakas ng vibration ng dashboard ko, yun yung tunog na narinig ko, turned out dirty air filter
