2011 Accent AT - Engine Knock!

Hi guys,

I'm supposed to put this to fuel talk thread but i'm not yet sure.

-engine knock started after my third fill-up of petron unleaded. I used the fuel since the car arrived and because it's the closest proximity to my place.

-engine knock is very faint and usually happens at low speed 0-30 kph.

-engine knock happens when engine is already at normal temp. (hot) and when you feather the gas pedal (light press)

-engine knock is at worse when under heavy load, uphill or doing a sharp turn.


asked for advise from the experts and here are the things i tried first

1. tried a higher octane gas (XCS), still the knock persist.
2. tried BLAZE 100 - knocking seems to stop but fuel is so expensive and engine seems to be unusually erratic when starting in the morning (cold start)

-i went to hyundai casa to have it checked.
-casa was not able to find the problem but insisted there is something wrong with the fuel since the spark plugs are unusually corroded and moist.
-casa suggested to replace the spark plugs and fill-up the tank with SHELL unleaded.

CURRENT STATUS:

-filled up with SHELL unleaded (it's my third fill)
-i'm not sure what's with shell unleaded but knocking sound is almost none existent now but still manifest from time to time specially when conditions are right (stated above)
-still waiting for the arrival of the spark plugs.
-for the record, the cvvt engine is a little noisy in the morning, makes me feel i have a small diesel engine, but it becomes lesser as the engine becomes hotter. (is this normal?)

-I will keep you guys posted.
-Any feedback/comments will be highly appreciated.

Same thing happened to my in-laws' brand new tucson last year. Hyundai made a refund. It seems may chamba ang hyundai sa mga brand new engines.

Wala na siguro tayong dapat ipangamba pa. Meron nang isa pang avenue bukod sa "Live with it." - "Get even!"

Sa mga kotse bawal din ba yung "NO Return / NO exchange"?

i'll just re-iterate my question, since wala pa atang sumasagot:

Before kasi, there was leaded fuel. Which is bad for our rides. And there then came Unleaded fuels, which happens nga that our lowest grade fuel is names after it. Kaya maraming nalilito.

Unleaded gasoline only means every gasoline that is NOT leaded can be used no matter what the RON rating is.

Bro.,- lead in our fuel was removed mainly because of environmental concerns. Also, I understand that it destroys the catalyst in catalytic converters, found in new engines.

Actually, lead in our gasoline improves the way fuel is burned, also eliminates/minimizes knocking in some engine variants and acts as a lubricant in our engine.

Any latest feedback regarding the ACCENT problem? Hope our brothers who are concern could update us up to what is the development now in their accent...

Engine will have problems earlier than expected, low FC and poor aural experience hehehe

Are the problems like damaged parts of the engine or in the long run will the whole engine completely break down? If the effect is minor, there should be time for Hyundai to figure out a solution or at least include it in the warranty.

If I remember it right, leaded gasoline was banned for 2 main reasons: Health and Environment. Exposure to leaded products can "lead" to brain damage. Babies and small children are the most in danger if exposed. Nakakapurol daw ng utak yang leaded gasoline.hehe

Fuel: Shell V-Power 97RON
Daily use, 60km/day. Yokohama A-Drive tires 195/55/R15
FC: 15.4km/L highway

Di ko alam yung city kasi hindi naman dinadala sa city driving yan, palaging highway driving.

Bottomline: Don't buy Hyundai Accent. Vios, City and Fiesta is better.

wow si SG nagapapayo na wag bumili ng Hyundai accent? hmm..

2009 vios 1.5G AT owner here 93RON (extra unleaded, basta maski anong 10% e10 gas) 12kms per liter city driving cogeo to makati via C5. pero mag isa lang ako lagi i think me factor din pag madami kayo nakasakay.

Never experienced this engine knock with my 1.4MT. I use super premium, xcs and gold fuels.

starting to hear some knocking sound.. lalo na pag nasa 3000rpm na.. will switch na muna to shell unleaded.. para sure na..

oo nga, wala na atang nagrereply dun sa mga owners na may engine knock daw. kamusta na kaya?
