^^^ With that, love our GS bro.

We might not have the means to buy the next gen when it's released in the near future....

Well Bro, when the Gen 3s were current, we never really thought Gen 4s would go way past the P1-1.5M mark. And here we are.

    Oh well.

Kung ang HVX nga eh nasa 1.970M na... :headache:

Dati (2004) HiAce Super Grandia ang pinaka-mahal. Ang Starex Gold nasa 1.4M, grey market pa yun..

2M for an entry level van? (assuming the Gen5 GS price)....

Hmmm.... At those prices, I'd go for a 2nd hand Dream SUV.. Land cruiser or Pajero.

Pero at todays prices, comparing the Grey and HARI units with their specs... Ang layo talaga ng nung dalawa. And since both are CBU's, it just boils down to these:

    a. HARI has a huge mark up?
    b. Hyundai Korea has a big mark up when selling to HARI
    c. Grey Importers are not paying the correct taxes--> but I doubt this since a know an importer friend who says you cant cheat on mainstream Grey vehicles. Exotics pwede pa daw, but on a case to case basis.

I wonder how the big 3 jap sellers would react if there were grey civics, corrollas and lancers? That would really stir the market

Oh well, I guess its time to buy a GS while we can afford it.

I used to work sa Section 5 ng customs, which handles importation of vehicles. In fact, HARI was the one who's cheating sa taxes as reported a few months ago by Topgear Phil and Phil Daily Inquirer. It was an internal issue. Didn't know how it got out to media. :/

    * CVT,

Planning to this Summer, April or May. Need to start the house construction. I'm also in a look out for a BPI/BDO auto madness promo. My friend got a low interest rate plus free Chattle motgage and auto insurance, a savings of around 60k!

OT: does any one of you guys know a higher up in AVIDA management, I am getting screwed with my Land title, its been 2 years and I found out that they havent given BPI ( the one I loaned the lot) my new TCT, I cant get a building permit yet. I'd really appreciate it.

    Fil_man,

Yeah I read that article on top gear... No wonder HARI is making a killing!

    Cocoy,

800k? Huwaw! I wonder how much of the 100% price increase does HARI profit from? But that would also mean that GREY units also have huge margins...Hmmmm...hehehe

    Kasi..

    Exactly.

Magkano lang ang HVX way back 2007?

what i dont like about HARI is.. they are cheating the buying public... and maybe even the goverment.. because i think its a fact that they bring in their GS units as bare bones.. so they would declare it as a plain van.. then they put all the other gadgets in.. like the seating configurations and other extras like the rear wiper and foglights..

the reason i believe they are doing this is that all HARI units have that ugly atenna on the roof whether you get the GOld version or the TCI..

but the unfortunate thing is i think our govermnet knows this is the case..

i know for a fact toyota does the same thing with their super grandias. they just outfit the super grandia at the Hino plant located in canlubang.. then sell it for a profit..

    ahh corruption..

then CAMPI wonders why so many people are buying surplus units..

Hayyy... makes me remember when toyota made a huge killing with their SKD 1990 Corollas.

Oh well. I remember buying my first STAREX SVX, wala pang 1M. Wala pa ngang 200k difference nung Grey top of the line Club, pero super loaded naman, twin sunroofs, LSD, Front and 2nd captains chair... and a nice upolstery finish. The Club starex circa 1998-2000 was my dream van back then, and in my personal top 10 list, a local classic, together with a 1990 Galant GTi, Lancer Boxtype and Corolla 16valve SE

Going back to the Gen.4, my friends HARI gold was delivered a week ago. I rode shotgun to a local watering hole and so far my friend has no complaints. except one... Anlakas daw sa diesel! He's getting 8kms/li mixed city. His worst was 6 km/li on an hour traffic in makati last friday. Any toughts? or gaganda pa sya after the engine gets past the first 1000kms?

our GS Gold sir clocked 21k odo already. so far wala pa din improvement sa consumption.hehe even on provincial trips, the best we got was 9.++kms/L though most of the time ay hataw mode naman like reaching 4000rpm almost redline na. sarap i-drive even around the city because of its responsive handling and light steering too!our complain before was the kalampag maybe due to the brake pads. but after changing it, malaki ang improvement.
all in all, a very good buy this van is. buti at di super grandia napili namin.

    Now thinking about it....

Assuming my 2000 SVX A/T wasnt overpriced at 950000 Php..

comparing it now with GS TCi AT.

    Price increase of 380000 php.Pero I get:

    a. an increase of about 20HP and 50 tourque, but with the increase of weight, this cancels out, or in CVT's testimonial no power shortage, a far cry from my old SVX AT, in which sometimes it just lumbers from 40-80 km/h speed range. Maybe an upgrade in the tranny was the trick since the HP and torque gain wasnt that big.

    b. Increased space/proportions
    c. Alarm/central locking (my old SVX didnt have this)
    d. ABS (imagine my 1M SVX didnt have this)
    e. 2 Single comfortable middle seats--I love this instead of the SVX seats with the foldable jump seat, this was very irratating as it rattled often. and was always inconvenient when the 3rd row passengers where going down.
    f. Of course CD and DVD HU. The Old SVX had a clunky cassette HU... But definitely a change will be better. I always swap out my stock HU's from what ever car I buy, I always like premium AV's. I figured I spent so much on the car, why not splurge a little more on creature comforts right?

    Cons:
    a. Useful space for hauling--> altough you may just need this about 10 times in the life of the GS.
    b. No spoiler and Back mirror--> I may use a backing camera instead, hey its the 2011's right!Besides mura na camera ngayon.
    c. No back up sonar..The OEM SVX sonar is so helpful and well calibrated.I'll miss this. Non OEM sonars are so unreliable.talo pa sa pabutas ng bumper.
    d. The fugly antennae... tsk not a fan of that...oh well I can live with that.
    e. No Fenderlights- I like this feature.adds visibility and safety. Infact I always double contact this when I buy a car.
    f. No airbags, altough my SVX didnt have airbags, I believe this stuff should be standard. I've got friends who lived thru accidents because of airbags.

Not bad, really not bad considering inflation rates for 1 decade, and factoring the upgrades... The 380,000 php increase is minimal, considering its been a decade since my last Starex. makes me think I overpaid for the HARI SVX

2008 Hyundai Starex (Gen. 4)
