well usually, unless otherwise stipulated, kasama sa quote at sa package na in-house ang kukunin mong insurance. unless, of course, kaibigan mo na yung agent, or you've had previous dealings with him that did not include getting insurance from him.
per dealer din naman ang freebies. if he can't haggle for the tc at Hyundai Otis, baka he can pm Lui or any other dealer and ask for their package.
or yeah, make it easier on himself and get a carnival. hehehe!

January 10th, 2008 11:46 AM #854mukhang tumahimik ang thread na 'to. any feedback from G4 owners (good or bad)? or are they an endangered species?

January 10th, 2008 05:04 PM #855Baka either bumili na ng Carnival o ibang SUV/MPV o nag-aantay pa ng developments from HARI. I've definitely noticed a much lesser presence of the new Starex on the roads compared to the Gen 3 though.

January 11th, 2008 01:56 AM #857Hello, I'm newly registered to tsikot forums although I have been lurking for quite some time. This is my first post, so pardon me if I may post a relatively comprehensive one.
Add yours truly to the list of Grand Starex owners as we are purchasing our unit later today. After a relatively long process of checking out second hand units for the Gen 3 Starex GRX, we eventually decided to buy brand new. After considering the many variants of the Grand Starex, we decided on the base variant (TCI manual transmission 9/10 seater) for the following reasons:
1. The van will be driven mostly by a driver - so manual transmission for the perceived better fuel economy
2. It will be used to shuttle the kids to school (about 3 trips a day totalling up to 50 km) - I'd say 95% city driving, only 5% highway driving
3. In line with No. 2, we need more luggage space for school bags - thus 9 seater, since the 12 seater's last row, when folded and pushed forward, leaves only about 1/2 meter of space between the tailgate and the seats.
4. Why TCI and not CRDI? - CRDI is too expensive. If I had P1.6 million to spare, I'd get a Santa Fe instead of a Grand Starex. Also, I noticed on the forums that it seems that fuel economy is not a major advantage of the CRDI....but power and torque are. If these are not critical based on the purpose you require the vehicle for, then I don't think it's worth spending an additional 300-400k just to get the more powerful engine.
Here are the obvious differences between the top of the line Grand Starex and the TCI.
1. Engine - 170 hp for the CRDI vs 100 hp for the TCI. 60% more torque for the CRDI as well
2. Transmission - A/T is tiptronic style for the CRDI
3. Braking system - all disc brakes with ABS for CRDI vs disc/front and drum rear for TCI
4. Seating arrangement - the 10 seat CRDI has seats that swivel and a rear row that slides all the way to midway of the cabin - good for storage space
5. Interior color - dark beige (CRDI) vs gray (TCI)
6. Body - the CRDI has two tone paint with some cladding vs. black for TCI
7. Instrumentation - CRDI has a silver panel, TCI is drab gray
8. Creature comforts - what the CRDI has that the TCI doesn't have - mirrors with lights in the visors, eyeglass compartment, LED mood lighting
9. Additional window for the sliding doors - good for the fast food drive throughs
10. Fog lamps only for the CRDI
Some subtle differences:
1. The 9 seater TCI has 3pt ELR seatbelts in all rows, with 2pt lap belts for the middle seat. The 12 seaters only have 2pt lap belts, even the 10 seat swivel version because the seats can move in various directions. Thus, the 3 point seatbelt cannot be anchored to a fixed point in the cabin. I prefer having 3 pt seatbelts since they are more secure, and the lapbelts tend to be taken for granted by most passengers
2. no power mirrors for the TCI
3. no central locking for TCI vs. built in Hyundai alarm for the CRDI - I had to add 14K for these features...the TCI has a key cylinder for both rear sliding doors, while the CRDI doesn't --- because of the factory installed alarm
4. more cupholders for the 12 seat version - because of the folding middle seat which doubles as a cup holder for the 2nd and 3rd rows
Other than that, most other features are the same....wheels, tires, back up sensors, antenna, DVD/CD stereo and speakers.
HARI seems to want to make more money on the after market items, such as 1) spoiler with 3rd brake light and rear back up mirror - P13K++, 2) chrome covers for side mirrors - P3,500 among others. So for those of you who are complaining that a vehicle like this should have these standard in all models, I don't think that will happen in the near future. Maybe for the 2009 model
The factory installed sound systems have some variations as certain units have AUX Out ports (good for iPods) while the others have an SD card slot. Both have a USB port so it seems the SD card slot is redundant.
In the meantime, these are just the perceived differences I can see for now. I'll post again once I am able to determine the fuel economy and driving feel (would you believe that we bought the Grand Starex even without a test drive --- Hyundai doesn't seem to have any test drive units at Pasig and Fort).
One last thing...the Sales Consultants were saying that the TCI is becoming more difficult to get by....for what reason we are not sure. I guess it is primarily because the CRDI is unreasonably priced compared to the 3rd gen CRDI Starex, and because they say the fuel consumption does not make much of a difference. What I notice is that many of the folks buying the top of the line Grand Starex are those who are upgrading their GRXes even though they've only had them for a year or two. And many who haven't bought yet are also waiting for HARI's next move...
Good day to all.
P.S. Can other 4th gen owners post their fuel economy (for both TCI and CRDI, whether M/T or A/T)? Is the new engine really more fuel efficient?

January 11th, 2008 12:19 PM #860Another thing I noticed on HARI units Grand Starex is that there is this really ugly roof mounted antenna which looks like a sore thumb thats sticking out. On the contrary, the gray market units dont have this but instead they have their antennas mounted on the glass which looks cleaner and infinitely better.
That's what he actually did. He also retrofitted an eps to his 1970s era beetle. Btw, now...
