Pati yung carnival stripped down version ang nandito -- kulang nga airbags kahit mas mataas ang presyo dito -- wala pang support.

Parang mas OK pa bumili ng 2 kotse ngayon kesa mag van.

Yah. They might come out with it ... in another 10 years!

I wouldn't put 'lang' and 'safety features' in the same sentence ...

What is the big difference between Innova and starex with reference to their specs below. Seems like Starex has the edge over Innova since it has higher classification of performance esp. DSL to DSL.
Ano kaya reason ng Toyota kung bakit mas mababa output ng Innova compared to its predecessors.

Well, baka naman kung wala yung TCI variants, ganun pa din kataas yung CRDI variants, lalong nawalan sila nang pwedeng ibenta...

I've a feeling they retained the TCI's so that they could compete with the lower ranged, well relatively lower ranged, vans. Despite having a D-4D powerplant, the Innova/Hiace engine produces 102hp/260Nm torque while the Grand Starex's TCI produces 101hp/232Nm torque.

I agree. Yung mga Grand Starex sa Standout puro CRDi pero halos di nagkakalayo ang mga presyo nila sa CRDi units ng HARI.

Again, they're deep into this strategy. I wonder how they'll pull themselves out of this pit....
Ang naisip ko lang na paraan para bumaba yung presyo ng Grand Starex ay kung gawin nilang CKD to gaya ng ginawa ng Nissan sa Urvan Estate nila. Kaso, ala naman atang assembly plant ang Hyundai dito.

IMO, its really overpriced vis-a-vis its specs. if its 3.0 CRDI, then their price is bearable.

I was in Shangrila mall last sunday and saw HARI's Grand Starex unit on display. It was a GLS CRDI M/T 10 seater unit. This time I paid attention to the tailgate and was really disappointed to see that the provision for the 3rd brake light was covered with a painted plastic part in place of the 3rd brake light and the rear wiper was nowhere to be found. Does it really cost that much to include the 3rd brake light and the rear wipers? I don't think that adding these 2 items will make the Grand Starex unprofitable for HARI.

Daig pa nga sila ng J at E na Innova. Wala ngang defogger tong 2 to, pero may wiper.

I am not dissing the van. Its a good van with an excellent engine (if you get the CRDi variant). Im just majorly disappointed with the accessories and trim level of the variants they offer here. I just dont see the 'value for money' which a Starex SHOULD represent. HARI is doing its legacy here in the Philippines a disservice by selling us poorly spec'd models. I can live without power doors, power tailgates and power rear windows (strange for manual windows in a P1.5m van --- the TCI model doesnt even have rear windows that you can open). But I cannot live without the ability to configure your seats and cargo area in a VAN whose legendary reputation was built on that kind of flexibility. The last straw really was the lack of rear visibility SAFETY features that should be standard.

I hope HARI is listening to this board, maybe future owners of Grand Starex TCI and CRDi will get better features in 2008 or 2009 model facelifts. But as for me, I refuse to be a guinea pig.
Way to go EQAddict. HARI apparently forgot about the Starex's "seat anyone, load anything" flexibility. Though you get a "new" and "grand" Starex with the Gen 4, getting the lower models makes you feel shortchanged, while getting the top of the line models makes your wallet hurt, and still somehow feel shortchanged.

So I'm guessing you went with the other van in that comparison thread?
