Yeah... it's a shocker how cheap the Accent is compared to the Rio... but then, the base-model is really a no-frills taxi special.
A taxi with a diesel and lots of vroom-vroom torque, though... hehehe...

It'll depend on your maintenance and the fuel you use. With the newer diesel blends coming on line, it might not be a problem, but eventually, injectors will wear out. The question, though... is the cost of replacement.
Older diesels already incur maintenance costs that gasoline owners don't often have to think of... diesel calibration, injector cleaning, fuel pump rebuilding, etcetera...
A CRDi's primary weakness is the sensitivity of its high pressure pump to diesel impurities and the very fine tips of the injectors, which can be clogged if pump or filter fails. The earliest I've heard of this happening, though, is well over 100,000 kilometers... way past the sell-by date most people set for their cars.
But when it happens, it can cost a lot.

with crdi's sensitivity that will eventually result in expensive maintenance repairs, i think going with a gasoline motor is much more practical since the quality of diesels here is not that "clean" IMO.

May 8th, 2009 01:39 PM #26*Sir Niky i already tested the 4x2 tucson, and it's soooo slow..while the focus is way better in all deparment except for the ground clearance..
i don't like the montero 4x2 since napakamahal ng maintenance ng mitsu ( i have a very good friend who bought the new 4x4 diesel estrada..nagsisisi ngayon)
and hindi ako marunong mag drive ng manual kaya out of the question ang accent hehehe...
sana mag promo uli ang Ford Focus before kase 1.014M lang ang introductory price e

Yeah... nagmamahal lahat ngayon... looks like our next car purchase will be limited to an i10 or a Jazz... can't really afford to be extravagant.

May 12th, 2009 08:23 AM #29Sir Niky and to all,
Sorry a bit OT, but in this case where would you go?
Gas car: More expensive fuel. Usually higher FC compared to diesel. But cheaper to maintain
Diesel car: Cheaper fuel (sometimes by P10/L). Usually better FC compared to gasoline engine. But more expensive to maintain.
Thanks much for your valuable opinions.

If my budget were higher, within the 1m to 1.5m (or even 3m) mark, and I was willing to spend, I'd go for a diesel vehicle. Whatever you get in that price range, you're going to have to pay a lot in insurance and you will lose a lot in depreciation. Might as well get something you can enjoy. At this end of the market, diesels are powerful, fast, and much more frugal than their gasoline counterparts. Though if you can afford a 3 million peso car, I doubt you're worried about the fact that your gasoline engine only does 5-7 km/l in mixed driving (typically, 3 liter diesels will do 8-9 km/l in the same situations).
With my budget as it is, only smaller gasoline and diesel cars are within my reach. And at 500,000 to 700,000 pesos, the fuel savings aren't really going to be great enough to warrant spending extra over the base gasoline models. Poverty spec Accent versus a Honda City 1.3 that gets similar economy? Difficult choice.
