Their Purolators looked okay in terms of build although the packaging was also different from the old US ones as observed. I checked out DIY shop a few weeks ago and their real-deal US Purolators were also being replaced slowly by the ones similar to those carried by Rapide/Kwik Parts. What gives? Purolator has a new factor/supplier or something?

I will email them this week and see what's up. But it looks like they are in a partnership with Bosch and Mahle Hammel which we know Bosch has a factory in Malaysia and they are most likely producing these Purolators but they should have a country of orign on them.

That would be great, Doc. According to the salesman (who wasnt too knowledgeable), they import it in from Singapore. If your thoughts are true then these would be quite good (given the quality is at par with the US ones) as Purolators are relatively cheap and easier to find around.

I'll bet the motorshow display people are wondering why more people are inquiring and scrutinizing their filters more this time around

I found there distributor, I don't think they actually produce them but are a distribution center just like how Fleetguard does through Singapore. They are probably produced at the same plant as the Bosch filters in Malaysia.

    Unicla International :: Oil Filter

You would have to cut one open to check the actual quality.

The current ones here look like this.

The older ones will have a string around the filter in the middle.

This has a lot of good shots of Purolators.

just checked the box of the luber-finer i got from w&l.. it says made in malaysia. ^_^
the filter is an old stock, no indication that it is a luber-finer but just a sticker saying PH920, but sure its heavier than all the filters i checked from the stores near my place.

VIC-P450, BOSCH-P390 and the new one i just encountered was FOREST-P220.

They are fakes, Champion labs does not have a plant in Malaysia, I also called and verified this as well.

Champion Laboratories Inc. - Worldwide Locations

They have nothing to do with that area including Singapore. Malaysia is like #5 in the world for fake oil filters.
Here is the top 8, China, Taiwan, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Syria and Turkey. As I recall someone posted on here about the local place that churns out Fake fleetguards and other brands.

Here are a couple of tips to help you tell a phoney from the genuine article:

Packaging If it appears flimsy, lacks the name brand or logo, or has graphics or a name that is similar to but not quite the same as those you're used to seeing, it could be counterfeit.

Colours Counterfeiters use colours, artwork and fonts on packaging similar to the original. Look for faded colors.

Price There will always be variation in prices of parts, but extremely large differences in price should cause you to be suspicious.

Of course the country of origin is a very big one. When the product looks nothing like what the manufactures site shows it's a dead give away it's a fake. Big companies have production standards that apply to all their factories.

Throw that sucker in the trash were it belongs. Don't risk your engine with a fake. Malaysia produces 17% of all fake automotive parts in the world, That's pretty dang high.

Some good examples of Malaysian fakes.

During the Manila international auto show last week at the world trade center, This chinese manufacturer FOTON came out with a new pickup truck called Thunder, what made me curious with this brand is that it had a Cummins diesel engine. Upon checking out the engine bay it had a 2.8li ISF CRDI Cummins engine and the fuel filter I saw was a fleetguard filter. I couldn't see the oil filter if it too was a fleetguard one. I remember only Big trucks the size of Ford F350's had Cummins diesel engines.

Cummins manufactures fleetguards that is why they use it also for their engines. Hope Foton will also sell other vehicles' oilf and fuel filters. It is an addt'l business for them if you ask me!

I would certainly do it if I was the country manager of Foton.

They make engines in all sizes, from farm equipment to generators to boat engines. Only the Dodge Brand has Cummins engines.

If that's the case with Foton that's going to be one reliable little ride. Cummins run forever.

haha! ako yata umubos ng BD 28, the last I went there I bought 4pcs of BD 28 and 6 pcs BT223.

BTW, just to update, I changed oil on my pilot unit taxi after running 10k km with BT223 installed. The oil still seems to be okay but I didn't pushed it any further. Big big savings being able to run 10k km where as before using those Vics the oil gets too dark at 5k km.

sir, you might want to try to have your oil analyzed. it will set you back around 1,200 pesos. but it will save you money in the long run. makikita mo kung ok pa ba yung oil mo. if its still good, you can have a little longer OCI. sa taxi im guessing every 6 weeks yung 10,000km?

also, what oil are you using?

    OT:

For those premium quality brands like baldwin and fleetguard for oil filters, does it also translate to premium quality fuel filters as well with those brands mentioned? I have been searching for topics about fuel filters and I might as well post it here, my question is what are the materials or components use inside the fuel filter that is different from the oil filter?

Yes they are designed for Fleet service which means longer filter change intervals because they hold more dirt and have better efficiency ratings. For instance many Baldwin Fuel filters filter down to 5 microns on average. But it depends on what vehicle you have because Volmax has limited stocks.

You can use the JS filter search to find your filter. JS Filters :: Product Catalogue. But many OEM fuel filters are very good like Nissan and Mitsubishi for at least their diesel engines. But the cost is high compared to the alternative filters which are for the most part better.

Thank you sir. How about the OEM Toyota fuel filter? Based from what I read, the OEM Toyota oil filter (black and denso) is no good. Is the Toyota fuel filter any better?

They make a pretty decent fuel filter for gas and diesel.

Example of their diesel filters. Which are rated at 35 microns * 98.7% and 10 microns * 50%. So the same as a Donaldson or Fleetguard. Baldwins are 5 microns at 50% for this application.

    Watch out for fakes.

^ do you have filtration ratings for Bosch made in indonesia or korea? Can't seem to find any?

They are really cheap but so far better than ViC.

Thank you sir. I check my engine compartment, mine is the black one OEM Toyota Fuel Filter, I guess this is same decent fuel filter as the one above.

If they have across the board manufacturing standards like other companies then there filters will be the same, But many Asian made filters are made different.

    Features and Benefits

Efficiency - Bosch filters are made of special micro-fibre paper impregnated with synthetic resin that separates up to 99% of all impurities.
Pressure Drop/Flow - The pressure drop rate shows how easily oil, air & fuel can flow through the filter. The lower the rate the better your engine can be supplied with the vital substances.
Life Time - Bosch filters have an optimum balance between filtration efficiency and pressure drop, ensuring they have a long service life.
The Importance of Filters - This is frequently underestimated. For financial reasons, many motorists change filters less fequently than recommended and therefore unknowingly damage high-grade technical components of their car or neglect the protection of the vehicle components from pollutants.

All filters should be changed every 15,000km or once a year. (Refer to the vehicle manufacturers recommendations. This will ensure long term efficiency of your engine)
Bosch are around 25 microns absolute.

It seems like Bosch brand is among the cheapest quality oil filter in the market. I inquired about the price of Bosch Oil Filter at Warren Auto Supply and surprisingly, it cost just Php150. The OEM Toyotal Oil Filter that im using cost Php462. Question is, original ba ung Bosch na un at that price?
