motor oil can immediately turn black the moment you run it in your vehicle. but this doesn't mean that it needs to be replaced right away. specially on diesel rigs but mostly because of soot. When it turns black that means its working. Its the breakdown of the additive components that you need to be more concerned of, however its impossible to determine the viability of the oil unless you have your oil tested in a laboratory. using a good oil filter prolongs the deterrent degradation of your oil. the more the oil gets contaminated with dirt, dust, etc the faster it looses its viability. that's why when you use VIC or OEMs its safer to follow the 5,000km oil change interval however if you use more efficient filters, you can extend your oil change interval to 10,000 to 12,000 km.
Good Day!
I'm planning to CHANGE the ENGINE OIL of my Isuzu Trooper 4JX1 local engine. The engine oil is dark, is there a way to make the Engine Oil clearer after flushing it with a New Engine Oil? 'cause I have tried it in my Pajero, when I checked the Engine Oil after the Oil Change & Engine Flush, maitim pa rin. pls help guys on what to do?
You can use an oil filter than filters down to 5 micron. Very difficult to achieve unless you are running a dual filter setup like what doc has. Primary filter filters down to 30 micron, secondary one filters down to 5 micron. secondary will filter out the soot that causing your oil to turn dark hence clearing out the color of your oil.
you can try this, kung gusto mong after change oil di magbago kaagad ang kulay ng oil mo,
magchange oil ka gamit muna ang cheapest oil na makukuha mo, but wag munang palitan ang oil filter, let it run for a few km, then balik sa shop, drain ang oil and change filter, palit na ng gusto mong oil. yan fresh na fresh na ang oil mo.
combustion is a DIRTY process, especially for diesel because it a LESS REFINED fuel compared to gasoline thats why its CHEAPER.
engines oils job is to LUBRICATE & not to collect SOOT, its just that in the process of combustion some soot find its way in the oil that is supposed to lubricate the engine to lessen wear & tear of the pistons moving up & down the engine cylinders. on the other hand its the job of the oil filter to collect the soot introduced in the oil by the combustion process to keep the oil clean & effective in protecting the pistons, however, over time, enough soot will accumulate in the oil filter & it will no longer be effective in preventing the dirt introduced by every burning cycle of the combustion process from contaminating further the oil protecting the piston. that is when the oil get sullied up & no longer an effective lubricant because soot are coarse particles. black oil color is certainly a cue for replacement.
diesel fuel is cheaper than gasoline engine but its maintenance will never be cheap. whatever you saved in fuel cost in the long run will be taken out in the cost of more frequent oil & filter replacement or worse OVERHAUL of the diesel engine
