solenoids are cheap if you made a mistake to cause it to fail.
solenoids are not cheap, if you don't deserve it failing.

i used to turn off my engine during long-ish waits.
i figured, if 30 seconds or more waiting, i turn it off.

so far, after 13 years and over 124K km, ok naman engine.
but i had to replace my battery more than twice as often as my other car's, whose driver did not turn off the engine during long-ish waits as i did.

fuel saved is probably 2x the cost of the battery? breathing fresher air lessened copd too...

i haven't really sat down and computed it, but i tell you, it gets pretty warmer in there, with the engine off.

For me this is the hardest part of doing this (turning off engine for long waits), especially with our weather here in our country.

I usually turn off my engine during stoplights more than 2 minutes. Tiis tiis lang sa walang aircon :D

When I visited Japan, most ng cars dun hybrid and naka idle stop/start system.

Mass transport moves people & goods more efficiently than a single driver vehicle.

Then on the other hand, lahat ng bulok nilang sasakyan, tinatapon dito sa `Pinas. Halos lahat ng bus & light truck, Japan surplus- kita pa nga minsan yung lumang markings ng dating Japanese na company that owned them. Kundi yung buong sasakyan, makina naman (ex. C-240 engine sa jeepney)
