Short update lang. 2nd fuel economy at 6km/litre using XCS and improvement from the initial 4.5km/litre using V-Power.

Btw for those who want to know, most of my driving is during rush hour traffic. Sunday Lang walang traffic. That may explain the high consumption.

I also do manual measurement. Km travelled / liters needed to fill up tank. I use the auto shut off function.

Thanks for the update... I think you need to continue observing your fuel mileage pa rin...

Maybe you mean urban and highway? 9km/l average is very good.

That's a very siginificant improvement going from V-Power to XCS!

To share my experience, if I load up on Silver Techron I get 15 km/L on highway. On XCS I only get 12 km/L.

So gasoline brand makes a difference?

Not much I guess, its more on the type of fuel.
Petron XCS is 95 octane, while Shell V-Power is 97 octane.

Remember the higher the octane rating, the slower the fuel ignites (more energy is needed to ignite the fuel).

A Chevy Cruze only requires 93 octane fuel since it does not use a high-performance/ high compression ratio engine.

The most important thing is to know your engine and know the recommended fuel for your engine.

I agree . It really depend on what engine do you have and what octane of gasoline to be use.

Not really, it's the type of gasoline. While higher octane gas is indeed more difficult to ignite, some types are more volatile than others. Based on experience, V-Power (or known as Velocity) seems more volatile vs say, Blaze. My city driving FC was the same (in my old car) when I used either XCS or Blaze. Kahit sa Corolla big body ko noon, V-Power seemed to contribute to poorer in-city mileage. Pero champion sa highway. . .

Bear in mind that the "boutique" gasolines aren't usually E10 blended like the economy gasolines... so the lower energy density of E10 also plays a factor in the poor economy you get from regular gasoline.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Well for the least the salesman I talked to didn't lie. Mixed city and highway driving daw resulted into a 9.8km/li consumption, from Pagudpud to Sorsogon daw ito. Considering it's a salesman, that's really out of the usual (usually kasi exaggerated figures ang ibibigay).

Got the brochure and the M/T LS is a good variant to look at (considering max top speed is 200 and a plus minus 20-50 kgs. weight difference with the A/T) aside from the top-of-the-line LT. However, with the typical fuel consumption of any 1.6 or 1.8 out there and a more expensive gas needed to make it run (the 92 octane unleaded won't do), I guess I'll just have to look for another vehicle.

Heard marami na rin daw silang supplier ng parts ngayon compared to the Optra days before na Thunder lang ang supplier nila. So parts wise competitive na raw. Would like to give it a try once more considering that the Cruze is admittedly a good competitor compared to the rest of the league out there, BUT I'm looking for something more economical in terms of fuel mileage, so then again, would have to turn down on this one sad to say.

Good ride though in all honesty, the sound dampeners and everything loaded in there makes it really superb compared to the competition. Sayang lang talaga that their ECOTEC isn't as ECO as expected still.

ADD: Admittedly wala pa rin akong kadala-dala, hehe galing na ako sa kamot-ulo ng maintenance ng Optra ko noon sinubukan ko pang i-try out ang bagong offering ng Chevy ngayon. Well, doesn't hurt to appreciate what's new and what has potential.

    Isn't 93 octane regular now?
I believe this is the recommended fuel for majority of the compact and subcompact cars sold here.

The "ECO" portion of "ECOTEC" means "Emissions Control Optimisation"

92 AFAIK is still the base fuel sold here I believe. For base requirements of cars it still is highly dependent on manufacturer specs.

Took ECO for economic actually chief, not really as is. Marketing racket as some may say.

Which unleaded fuels are 92 octane?

    Motioncars CarChart: http://www.motioncars.com/carchart/index.htm
This shows the specs of all the cars sold here.
Included are the recommended fuels for each model.
