But given people’s treatment of cars as disposable appliances, it probably won’t matter that much 15 to 20 years later. No one holds onto cars that long nowadays.

I believe I used the word “investment” incorrectly. Yes cars are not investment because they will depreciate, you’ll maintain them etc. But what I’m saying is the Rav4 will not be as outdated as some of its competitors 10, 15 or 20 years later. Sensors will be crapping out, some toys will not be as cutting edge, sunroofs will have leaks, carbon deposits will accumulate with DI engines etc.
If your primary concern is resale value, stay away from compact cars, midsize cars, CUVs, or gas-powered midsize/fullsize utility vehicles (or any vehicle with a gas engine bigger than 1.6L). In the RP market, pickups relatively keep their resale value the longest.

going back to the original question.

given the same set of circumstances I might give the slight edge to the civic rs.

    I would choose the levorg only if i were;
a.) speed freak with a need for cargo space
b.) don't mind the fuel bills

I think if i do considerable time driving in the expressways I would also choose the levorg.

The Civic RS is quick and fast for a compact. It may not have the power of the Levorg but it is light, nimble, and considerably quicker/faster than most cars on the road.

The Civic RS is around 1.6M nowadays while the Levorg 2.0T is around 1.9M with discounts. If you don’t mind the 300k difference, I guess the Levorg is a steal. If you’re practical, then the Civic RS will do.

isn't the oil dilution problem only a concern in colder climates?

Initially thought to be a cold climate problem. Updated reports say otherwise.
Affected owners like the 1 below have voiced their concerns against Honda's claim of normal & being a cold climate issue...

And the Software Fix & TSB doesn't seem to be effective. Post-update oil analysis still revealed dilution.

I believe the simplest solution to that is to change the oil every 6 months.. or maybe even 3 months if you want to be sure. So that really is not an issue if one changes his oil religiously.

The real issue here is how Honda priced the Civic RS at 1.6M and also.... CVT. 😂

Agree. Oil changes aren't a difficult DIY. A Fumoto valve really helps.
The good thing about Honda going CVT on their products when we were a car short 5years ago......it led me to try Mazda. Thank you, Honda![emoji106][emoji4]

As I understand we source our engines from thailand. are cars destined for north america identical or sourced from the same factory?

so potentially our civic rs could suffer the same?
