    Showdown:
    Mazda 3 1.5V (HB) - 945000
    Pros:
    - eye-catching design
    - very good handling
    - nice interior finish
    - not sure if this is true, but Youtube videos said that the hatchback has a larger cargo space than the sedan

    Cons:
    - middle seat is compromised due to large hump
    - no reverse camera
    - the 1.5 feels a bit strained when overtaking during test drive
    - no cash discounts
    - including insurance price is almost 1m
    - only 3 color options

    Jazz 1.5 VX - 908000
    Pros:
    - good resale value
    - wide legroom in comparison to other subcompacts
    - touchscreen with reverse cam
    - probably has cash discounts available

    Cons:
    - full of hard plastics
    - too expensive for a subcompact
    - he hasn't test driven this yet so he doesn't know how it handles as compared to the Mazda3
    - middle seat is uncomfortable

purpose: personal car, with occasional barkada as passengers

Which one fares better in terms of overall passenger comfort, fuel economy, rear cargo space, and overall bang-for-buck? Any other feedback from owners of both cars is appreciated. His heart wants the mazda 3 but his mind thinks that the jazz is more practical so he's asking this to make sure that he's making the right choice.

I have the Jazz but if money is not an issue I'd get the Mazda.

Owner of Mazda 3 here Sir Louie so 'yun lang ang mas alam ko.

    Passenger comfort
I believe Jazz is narrower, so mas masikip 'yung mga passenger kung puno ang backseat.

    Additional Pros for M3
    3 years free maintenance.
Mazda 3 has all disc brakes while Jazz has rear drum brakes.
M3 has 6 speakers I dunno about Jazz
I believe M3 has better suspension

    Comments on Cons:
    - middle seat is compromised due to large hump
Absolutely. Kawawa 'yung middle passenger sa back seat. Hindi makatulog ng maayos ung pasahero ko dati.
    - no reverse camera
For me, the parking sensors are enough. But siyempre, mas maganda kung meron. Pero I believe magkakaroon ng support nito later sa Mazda3 either OEM or whatnot, kasi available ang rear camera ng Mazda3 sa US.
    - the 1.5 feels a bit strained when overtaking during test drive
Agreed. Kailangan mo talaga tumiming sa overtake. Pero there's always kick-down mode para lower gear agad.
    - no cash discounts
    Yup
    - including insurance price is almost 1m
mga around 30k siguro insurance. 975k na. Pero minus maintenance cost for 3 years, mababawasan rin to.
    - only 3 color options
    Nakakaasar nga eh

    Additional Cons for M3
    Long waiting time for unit
    Parts availability

I chose the M3 over City (hindi pa kasi lumalabas si Jazz nun kaya di siya naconsider) because:
    1. Good styling
    2. Good interior: Good material and driver-centric dashboard and center console (putek, nalimutan ko tawag dun sa joystick ah)
    3. Disc brakes vs drum brakes
    4. Good price for a compact (compared to Altis and compared to a subcompact like City).
    5. Free maintenance

Tell your friend to follow the heart and get the Mazda 3. If he gets a vehicle that he does not really want, he will drool and wonder every time he sees a Mazda 3 a.k.a. buyer's remorse. If it's just the friend driving most of the time, rear seat space would not be a priority.

The Mazda 3 1.5 really needs rim upgrades. Looks very cheap with the small 16" rubber. Hopefully you can slap on 18" rims from the 2.0, but sourcing that will be hard.

This will also push your cost to about 1M.

Aside from that, the Mz3 is just better in every way for me, though if upgrading wheels are not an option I'd rather get an Altis.

already got an answer from my friend who has a cx5. he asked his dealer because he plans to upgrade his car audio, and he was informed that the yojin3 maintenance won't be affected but it will void the warranty on the electrical parts on his suv.

Medyo hindi nga ganun kaganda cabin sound insulation ng Mazda 3. Kapag nasa SLEX, medyo kailangan na magtaas ng boses.

Up! Jazz VX vs Mazda 3 1.5V
adding in Altis 1.6 G CVT

this will be my first car, so I really have limited knowledge in terms of maintenance and etc.

-will be used everyday 9am to 6pm; Antipolo to Makati via Rosario Pasig, C5, EDSA, Ayala (parang lahat ng impyernong traffic dadaanan ko) around 40 KM travel per day (back and forth)
-it will be a long ride so fuel efficiency, comfort, and reliability are the criteria
-i don't care about looks or any subjective nonsense, so objective reasons please

Mazda's Yojin3 gives you free maintenance for 3 years. All you have to do is bring in your car at the recommended schedule (they're understandably strict about this). The comfort and FC are just bonuses

    Take the Altis.

CVT will mean good fuel efficiency.
The Mazda 3 / Jazz chassis/suspension is tuned for a more sporty drive so the Altis will be more comfortable (this is Toyota's forte).
There are many Corollas on the road, so parts and future service outside the Toyota dealerships will be plentiful.

I'd go with the Mazda3. It may not be as spacious as the Altis but it strikes a good balance in handling, comfort, and looks. SkyActiv technology has gotten good reviews in fuel efficiency.

If you want a compact car with the big and comfortable interiors, the Altis is a good choice and so is the Nissan Sylphy. These cars are more comparable in size to older midsize cars. The Jazz is spacious for a subcompact hatchback but I don't dig the current Stormtrooper look. It does offer great utility options with its ability to have its rear seats fold flat to allow bigger cargo compared even to compacts. The Jazz offers good handling (better than its sedan brother, the City) but not as responsive and sporty as the Fiesta hatchback.
