I bought the focus with the mindset that its such a bargain for P1.088M excluding discounts. We’re talking about base models here.

It ain’t a headache, but that’s the stigma though. The DCT affected people’s perception. But with a little research the car in reality is quite reliable, its one of the highest selling cars in the world according to some reports. Dito lang sa pinas takot ang mga tao sa American cars.
The Mazda3 2.0L model is no slouch for an NA car. It is almost as quick as the Focus Ecoboost. The Civic RS though is the standard in terms of performance among affordable compact FWD cars. However, the Focus offers the least price for the most power output.

Yes, definitely the Focus offers great performance with the 1.5 turbo, paired with a good chassis. I was just commenting that the PH market does not appreciate the extra power and it's not enough to overcome the brand stigma.

You can even posit that people care more about the lack of space in the Focus than its horsepower.

Good point on the Focus being a global bestseller but a poor performer here. Problem is, local auto suppliers will not carry inventory of low-volume units. Even for dealerships, turnaround time for parts delivery is still longer than high volume cars.

I'd like to see how the Focus Ecoboost performs on the track. With all the talk of how awesome its engine is, I haven't seen one joining in any track days I've attended.

What could be the reason? I'm very curious to get an answer.

Oh if its the 2.0L mazda3 then hell yeah. That thing is quite the performer for a 2.0L engine.
The base model 1.5L though... meh.

As the other guy said, no one’s buying any Focus because of the brand stigma which is really really unfortunate.

Let me put my curiosity this way, then. If the people who did buy the Focus bought it for the performance, why are none of them showing off that "performance" on the track?

The Mazda 3 2.0R is a great car indeed. Interestingly, the Civic 1.8 can actually beat a 2.0 Mazda 3 on the track.

The 1.5 is surprisingly not much of a slouch if you tune it right. Can also keep up and clock quicker times than a 2.0.

With its low sales figures, most buyers may have no inclination to bring their Foci to the track. Most of these will most likely be driven at the usual pace of traffic. I rarely even encounter a Focus Ecoboost on my daily routes at SLEX or on my visits to Pampanga thru NLEX/SCTEX.

Ask ko friend ko kung willing sya dalhin sa track yung Focus Ecoboost hatchback nya.

Because its not a track car. Sure it has good performance but come on, baka mapahiya naman tayo sa mga STI and Type Rs.

Just like the civic RS and mazda3 2.0L, its a compact car with good performance but you’re kind of way out of your league if you’ll drive them on the track against track-built cars... I mean I’d like to sometimebut you know, I ain’t pretending that my car is a track monster. But really I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, never been to a track, walang malapit dito sa amin eh. If I had the chance to drive it in the track, I’d take it. Willing to learn.

Rarely do car owners take time to bring their rides on the track. The folks who go to the track are those who have the passion to do so.

Most owners will just use their rides on their daily commute. However, there are those who prefer their rides to be quicker than others. If you ask me, for the same amount of money, I'd choose the faster car over the slower one.

There are different classes for different kinds of cars.

No track day will pit an STi against a Focus or any other econobox. You will always be pitted against cars of the same class as yours.

Sir, saan location mo? If you are within NCR, you can bring your Focus Ecoboost to the track by joining Jut and Archerfish at Touge Battle. They drive around Clark, BRC, Tarlac, or Subic. Sadyang busy lang din ako on other weeked commitments kaya di ko nasasamahan yung dalawa.

Yup, the civic is also pretty quick for its 1.8L engine. I think the CVT helps.

Would suggest for you to join Touge Battle on October 20 at Tarlac Circuit Hill.

Touge Battle has the best format for first timers on the track, not to mention a very friendly community. Really fun way to really enjoy your car without compromising the safety of other motorists/pedestrians.

Salamat sa advice pero Tarlac... Mindanao ako boss.

Di pa ako naka experience ng track. The most I can do here is the open roads and mountain roads for fun. Sarap sana itakbo sa track.
