For me both are good it depend on the driver how to use and maintain both transmission to last long.

I'm slowly moving in favor to A/T esp now that we have those 5 and 6 speed A/T in the market now.

I had to borrow my mom's car (A/T) one day, because mine (M/T) was getting fixed and I had to leave it over night. Now, because of the nature of my work, I am usually too tired going home and most of the time sleepy. To make the story short...as I was driving my mom's car home after a double shift, I fell asleep on the wheel but I was lucky that I was at the most right side lane and drifted at such a minimal angle that both right side wheels actually went up the side walk. The humongous jerk I felt suddenly woke me up at about 40 to 50 m/h with both right side wheels riding on the side walk. I gradually slowed down and parked the car to get my composure back...boy was that scary. The lesson I learned...NEVER drive home sleepy...and NEVER drive an A/T again...it was just too BORING. Lucky that the car had no serious damage except for a lost mud gaurd, which was easily replaced and lucky that I made it out without a scratch.

I used to laugh at the notion of drivers falling asleep on the wheel...after that incident...it can happen specially if you are driving an A/T.
