Lahat naman tayo naging newbie driver, if you're a newbie driver and you have the budget for the brand new i think wala naman issue.

Maghanda ka lang emotionally kasi hindi sasagutin ng comprehensive insurance yan.

yesterday, sinamahan ko yung friend ko sa mga car dealership along Otis (Toyota and Honda) and Macapagal (Hyundai, Suzuki, Kia) to inquire which car yung trip niya.

after ng mga visit sa mga car dealerships, ang nagustuhan niya are: Vios, Wigo, Altis, City, Celerio, and Ertiga. magkakatalo na lang sa best offer ng dealership. pero hindi pa kami tapos mag-canvass as we are also exploring other branches as well. besides, bibigyan naman siya ng car allowance ng company na pinagtatrabahuhan niya (pero in 2 years pa ibibgay sa kanya; so she will shoulder the payment on the said period of time)

but, after each visit sa car dealer, she told me that she is exploring second hand units since newbie driver pa lang siya at natatakot siya na baka may bangga agad yung kotse lalo na kung bago pa ang kotse.

ang sabi ko naman, it's your decision what to get, pero I recommend to get second hand car.

    thoughts?

nice thing with new cars.. the newbie driver can concentrate more on driving than on sensing of strange sounds, jerks (car! not person), leaks, and other suspicious signs of "wear and tear"..
nice thing with used car, is that the initial capital expenditure is much less... and should car get into a fender bender, the emotional aspect is not so overwhelming.
what would i get? if i am willing to afford it, i'd get a new car. what would i get my son-the-new-driver? my old car, as it's in perfect working condition (sakin ang bagong sasakyan. heh heh.).

Our car just turned 1 year this month so for us sort of "brand new" pa din.

wifey just learned how to drive, same apprehensions niya na baka mabangga etc

I told her alisin yung mindset na yun, just do what you have to do and remember the basics.

Dahil ba 2nd hand okay lang mabangga? hindi rin diba?

Hindi mo man ibangga the risk are still there na baka ikaw ang banggain, ikaw ang hanapin ng disgrasya.

Live with the risk and move on.

In my opinion, when you buy second hand cars, binili na rin pati yung problema ng car. Minsan problema ang binili, hindi yung car. Kaya think twice po tayo mga friends. If you have the money, go for brand new. If insufficient yung funds, try to be patient. Mag ipon muna.

I guess some people avoid debt or refuse to pay interest on a depreciating asset. We only buy vehicles we could afford to pay for in cash whether brand new or used.

If you have to, buy only from your personally known seller who takes good care of their car/s. Bought twice already in the past carnival and navara later, all was in mint condition and had low mileage.

And your cash in the bank will not earn the same amount as the interest they charge. So double whammy yang financing, again for some people.

there was a time in the distant past, when buying on installment was frowned upon..
"..why buy something you can not afford..? are you boasting..?"
"..these shylocks.. in league with the devil..!"
    ...times have changed.

i prefer to buy cash. i have seen... relatives... literally eating water for lunch, just so's they can pay the monthlies.. still fresh in my mind..

Like what my Father always said, if you purchase a car by installment, it would seem like you end up working for the bank just to keep up with the monthly payments. Something else I noticed in buying a car by installment, the owner will not be able to keep up with the costly PMS (on top of the amortizations). That is why I buy what I can afford in cash. I only avail of installments if it is 0% interest (usually appliances).

Bought a car in installment. 50% down 3 years to pay. Why installment? I already computed what the 50% will earn vs the total interest i pay for the loan. Mas malaki kita nung 50% invested than the interest so i opted to get installment. So cash or installment? Depende[emoji1]...some will ask why not invest the the downpayment then to earn more interest and postpone buying a car? Well, i needed a car, i really liked the car i got and i only live once [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]..so might as well have my cake and eat it too.
