If you're asking the ideal age for a secondhand car before it starts needing major repairs, in general cars that are less than 10 years old or 100,000 km are still mostly problem-free.

Of course, it still depends per car. Not all cars have the same build quality, and more importantly, car owners don't take care of their cars in the same way. Some high mileage cars run better than younger, low mileage cars because they're well taken care of.

if a second hand car is to be financed, it has to be lower than 5 years and the payment should be equal to 5 years.
    example:

if the car is two years, max payment is three years.
if the car is four years, max payment is one year.

Mga sir, I'm planning to buy a second hand car pero not sure if I will go with cheaper na fully paid or cheaper nga pero may assume balance. I am getting a Honda Jazz. Kasi I assume baka mastuck na sakin forever yung car if ever I get one with the said mileage then I decide to sell it 2 or 3 years after. Kasi mahirap na for sure ibenta pag 130km-150km+ na siya, right?

Or as long as it's Honda ok pa naman po kumuha kahit ganun na kataas ang mileage basta well taken care of?

Hope someone can help me in deciding.

i prefer the car that is fully paid and already in the name of the owner. it's less complicated paperwork that way.
higher odometer readings do tell in the purchase price. but maintenance is also a factor. see if the car looks well maintained or beat up. bring along somebody who can do this if you feel you are not qualified.
errr... i don't own a honda. why do you prefer a honda?

Hello Ms Gulaysk/Masters, It was nice reading this thread. Very informative and tips are very helpful.

Thanks again for walking me through the whole process of buying a second hand and which issues to watch out for.

It's only been a few days but so far we're happy with the unit. Too embarassed to share the story of how it happened. Let's just say, kasalanan ng poste. :cry2: Looking for a shop now kung saan pwede dalhin. Nagpa-estimate kami kanina sa kakilala ng driver namin, he quoted 8k. Kailangan daw ilatero. But we're looking for another place to bring it kasi kakasabi lang ng sister ko na hindi raw pulido gumawa yung pinuntahan namin. Nagkapatse patse raw yung sasakyan niya after pinturahan ng same shop.

You can imagine hubby's face when we got off the car after ko mabangga. Buti nalang hindi nagkameltdown. Lol. Anyway, OT na ito. Will just post my queries sa separate thread for Honda repair. Just wanted to thank you guys again. Salamat!

Avoid used car salesmen, almost always they tamper with the odometer. Even if it's digital it can be tampered with. With Luxury cars, they can just replace the instrument panel. Search online for odometer adjustment.

    May Trunk (no hatch)

Pwede pang-akyat araw-araw (sa bundok kami nakatira)
    Kumportable sa pasahero

I'd consider an Altis 1.6 (2011 and up). Comfortable, good power and torque for climbing steep inclines and brakes are quite good too.

A facelifted 10th gen Altis (2011-2013) won't fit the 300-350k budget since the cheapest decent one you can get is around 400k. The pre-facelift 10th gen is within your budget though, but I'd recommend getting the manual. There's a big difference in power between a manual and automatic Altis.

But if you ask me, get an FD Civic instead. For around the same price, you get more power and more space for rear passengers. Better handling for mountain driving too. The Altis has a softer ride but I think the FD is a better car overall. [emoji4]

Actually one can try to negotiate for one within reach, especially if it's a m/t model. Olx prices are around 50K higher than market going price, IMO.

The FD is more fun to drive, has better handling dynamics, and will stretch very well on the highway. Overall build quality (the FD we had and that of my friends had parts wearing way ahead than usual) and low-range torque (notably when climbing) will favor an Altis, especially if it's a manual transmission. If you're getting an a/t, the FD will be my choice too.

At the end though, take a look at several makes and brands, and go with the one that also gives the best condition and has service records as well. First owner selling is a plus too.
