Uber has taken in billions of dollars from investors

they can afford to burn cash

until investors have had it with uber and sell their shares

for now, investors are banking on eventual profitability

    or waiting for the IPO

    then sell

Uber the super unicorn has taken in $14B in investor money (Uber's valuation now near $70B)

they can afford operate at a loss

they lost tons of money in China and Russia eventually losing to local rivals

it all depends on the stomachs of uber's investors how long they can watch uber burn cash

    --

early investors looking forward to the IPO

that's when they can dump shares on the public

What is the possibility of the government/LTFRB coming up with their own online reservation platform for traditional taxis? Meron na ba nito? Kasi sa ganito pwede makita ng pasahero ang reviews sa driver.

Anyway, years before Uber/Grab, I already watched something similar in one of those about Japan video clips. Peborit ko sa free TV noon itong mga clips na ito eh.

Truth is, Uber is really just gathering data now until it pivots into a driverless model.

I'm not one to side with large multinational corporations, particularly Uber, who does not own any of the cars nor employ any of the drivers. These drivers and Uber operators essentially pay a tax to Uber to get to join in its "ride-sharing" gimmick which really is a paid taxi service.

The root cause is the lack of viable alternatives and a reliable/dependable taxi service for the common tao.

(A case study here is Tokyo. The government took a sane approach at regulations for app-based transportation. And curiously, Uber hasn't taken off there as well as in Manila.)

Had the LTRFB properly implemented rules and regulations on taxis and had erring drivers banned, pinoys wouldn't be clamoring for the likes of foreign-owned billion-dollar companies like Uber.

yes uber would love to get rid of the driver

they're being sued (in the US) that drivers are not independent contractors but employees that have to be paid salaries and overtime and other benefits

    that's a headache for uber

that's why they're testing driverless cars

big taxi companies (like R&E) can come up with an app to compete
