July 5th, 2014 11:28 AM #151Hazard flashers
Also called "hazards", "hazard warning flashers", "hazard warning lights", "emergency lights", "4-way flashers", or simply "flashers".
This function is meant to indicate a hazard such as a vehicle stopped in or near moving traffic, a disabled vehicle, a vehicle moving substantially slower than the flow of traffic such as a truck climbing a steep grade, or the presence of stopped or slow traffic ahead on a high speed road.

July 5th, 2014 08:16 PM #153i guess each country has their own norm for these hazard lights which makes these unwritten (or maybe written for some) rules country-specific.

our worst mistake is number 4, flashing our lights if we want to go first in an intersection or you want to overtake. sa mga naka drive na sa europe, experience nyo na to. pag nagflash ka kasi ng light sa kanila, ikaw ang magyield. meaning, paunahin mo ang nasa kabilang lane. ilang beses na akong muntik madisgrasya nito. pag nagmamamdali ako, flash agad ng light sa intersection para makauna. then yong sa kabila naman, abante agad. siguradong magpang abot sa gitna, mura palagi inaabot ko dito sa mga puti.

In other countries when you flash your headlights, it means your yielding right of way and letting the other vehicle proceed. A flash is a flash, no need to complicate what it means.

Madami kasi pilosopo kailangan written or nasa batas bago sundin. Without realizing that a lot of interaction on the road is a product of etiquette.
I'm willing to bet more than 50% of drivers here still do not know what it means when a vehicle on the fast/overtaking lane of the expressway is approaching from behind with its left turn signal flashing. Hindi naman siguro siya kakaliwa?
There is no written rule on this but in Europe, the response is automatic already. Americans seem to understand it also. Again, its more of etiquette, even I was clueless on this when I started driving.

July 5th, 2014 11:33 PM #160oh well. locally HL flash means "im going first". if you're yielding naman switch off the HL. it's pretty tough to apply european settings here dahil sa sheer number of motorists who only knows the rule "flash to pass".
pero pagkakaintindi ko, one flash means "go ahead". multiple flashes means "get out of my way". hehehe
either of the two i do, basta may hand signal na "wave" during passing and/or tap sa busina as saying "thank you".
Probably looks like a Coke sakto. Yes, where did you buy it?
