Has anyone tried retrofitting a bulb (LED or otherwise) to the upper red lens of the current Innova tailamp? This portion of the tail light currently does not serve any purpose. It does not light up, nor does it function as a safety reflector. It's essentially a black hole (or a red hole). But it DOES have a reflector inside but apparently does not have a hole for a bulb. I would suppose that this lens is functional in some other market segments. The bottom red lens serves as both the position/park light and brake light.

It would've been nicer sana if Toyota made the upper red lens light up when the position/park lights are on. At night kasi if you look at how it is currently setup, you will see the upper red lens unlit while the bottom lens doing all the work. Parang kulang.... parang pundido.

at night, one does not even see the top part of the rear light assembly.
if a bulb were retrofitted to it, it might prove to be too bright as to blind the driver behind when it brakes..
i'm ok with how it is right now..

When you're behind it at night, you do have your headlights turned on, don't you? Yes, it is noticeable. In fact, I noticed this long before I even dreamed of buying an Innova.

Of course you're not supposed to use a bright bulb for position/park lights. A standard 5W T10 'wedge' bulb is pretty much standard for modern single-filament position lights. Having the upper lens active at night makes the whole thing look much better. At night, with the parklightsturned on, both the upper and lower red lenses are lit dimly * 5W. When the brakes are applied, only the lower lens turns bright. (21W).

In addition to the added aesthetics, this also provides additional distinction to the driver following behind when the Innova's brakes are applied.

    to each his own, sir.

btw, you can comfortably see that high using your headlights? you must be on hi beam...

    heh heh.

i am just wondering why toyota chose to not put in a bulb at the apex.. cost cutting? or, they tried it and the designers thought it did not look good or it didn't seem to add significant enough visibility to warrant the expense..
i have both the first edition tail light and the latest edition tail light... and ... "it's no big deal to me-the-owner"...
at any rate, if the owner doesn't like the latest design, he can buy the first ed and have it installed in his innova..

is this your first car experience po?
most owners' manuals have maintenance schedules. we can start from there.
you can have them done in the casa, where you will be charged an arm and half a leg... or in a "decent car shop"... (sorry, but the only shop i can recommend is the casa.. everything else, i mando at the mekaniko-beside-the-auto parts store.)
    have fun.

I am sorry to hear of your dad's demise..
if you can find out where it was being serviced before, that would be a big help because the people servicing her might already be familiar with its quirks and all..
if the car had been casa-maintained, you can go to the (or any) casa and ask for the maintenance records of the car. they can show you what had been done to the car, as the casas are now (usually) inter-connected via computer.. from there, you can just follow the recommended schedule.
casas have a recommended maintenance schedule for all of their vehicle lines.. this is also usually reflected in the owner's manual. perusing thru that manual will give you an idea of "what you are up against". it's not difficult. all it takes is money. heh heh.
    have fun.

planning to buy 205/70/R15 for my Innova...kaysa naman daw vs the stock 205/65/R15

    my choices:

    Yokohama Geolandar = 4000/pc
    Bridgestone Dueler = 4,200/pc ...promo is 3+1 so i'll just buy 3
    Goodyear Wrangler HPAW = 4,400/pc

Ano kaya mas maganda? 3 times a week lang ginagamit ang car with occassional long travel to north luzon every vacation.

there's a 3 % difference in circumference between the two tire sizes. live-able enough..?

errr... why the change of tires, sir? what's wrong with the current?

maraming model sir yung dueler. dapat sir yung dueler H/T, yung dueler A/T yung matagtag at medyo maingay.

naka 18s ako ngayon sir sa innova na naka 50 series tires (235/50r18), mas maganda yung ride compared doon sa 15s stock. expected ko nga mas matagtag pero hindi pala (same tire pressure sa stock 15s)

Sabi kasi less matagtag daw pag nag 70 series. And taas konti ng ground clearance. Parang maliit din kasi tingnan stock tire e.

Tnx. Will try bridgestone. Medyo maingay nga ang yoko. Sa long drive ay pansin ko. Sayang din promo, buy 3 take one free.

Mga sir, newbie po, nabangga po ako sa ilalim lang ng left bumper, may tumagas na tubig and most likely sa windshield washer reservoir galing. Meron po bang may alam magkano yung palit nun or kung ano remedyo pwede? Innova 2007 model.

    Thanks!
