Hahaha! I'm definitely no mechanical or tech expert, but i'll take enthusiast anyday

It is a bit of a downer that the people who are supposed to know are the ones that dont. Its not often a new car is launched within a brand so I guess I expected the MI reps to be of higher caliber than your "generic" toyota etc reps and know more about their stuff than other brand reps. Like they can take you out on a test drive and demonstrate the features of the car. If it were me I would definitely want to know about that and what the competition has so I can easily excite and differentiate my product for customers.

It makes me wonder if I were to walk into Autostrada and interview the people there, would they know more about their cars than someone who just read stuff off the internet a day or two before....

Please continue to share your experiences with your new XT! I know its a lot to ask but perhaps you can make a monthly blog of what your experiences are with it, or until more people start giving their info.

I am hoping that the numbers pan out close to the XV since they have the same engine but the Forester is just slightly heavier. Too bad they dint make it DI like on the XT, it might have made some HP difference.

Does anyone know if the XT has a different CVT than the non-Turbo Forester, as the article from that other website seems to differentiate it as a high-torque CVT for the XT. However MI rep said they have the same transmission.
My bad, so it's not called XS now sir? I was referring to the 2014 NA variant with CVT . Maybe we can refer to it as the 2014 NA heheh!

Sweet. I read the cabin and engine are quieter and more refined. Not to nitpick but I'd prefer the paddles to not turn with the steering wheel. I dislike that with my FD Civic.

Sir Cfule, is there a special package for the Forester, like insurance, LTO registration, discounts, etc? Thanks!

unfortunately no discounts and free insurance and LTO. Free tint and floor matts lang since this new forester is not even officially launched yet. ngayon pa lang daw car show sa april 4 to 6 ata.

    update on FC

    filled fuel: 44.86 liters
    km run: 285.5kms
condition: 50% city, 50% hiway with lots of WOT
    trip computer: 14.2L/100km (7.04km/L)
    mano mano compute: 6.36km/L

this is one thirsty car if you are gunning it!!! hopefully this will still improve once na medyo na "break-in" na yung engine. i will try not to gun it starting from this refill, lets see if i can reach 9km/L.

I guess SF is the new Forester model designation. The previous one was called SH. Ya pareho lang halos ang fuel consumption with my SH XT. I use mano mano calculation too which is more accurate. Good luck in resisting the urge to gunnit. It's hopeless I tell you.

if the manufacturers claim of 0-100kph for the new forester turbo is 6.2s, we as owners might not be able to replicate that time, and put it at real world 7sec, i guess we, XT owners are the fastest among all those cars wonder why they didn't test the forester XT, kahit yung previous gen coz that is what 's availble during their testing period.

The new Forester is designated as SJ. SF is the 1st generation.

    That's the quoted 0-60 mph time. 0-62 takes longer. A 6.3 second 0-60 would usually translated to 6.8 to 7 seconds 0-100 km/h.

The previous gen XT no longer qualifies. It competed in a previous PCOTY, and last year we already had the last of the previous models, the updated mid-range 2.0. The new XT will probably join the 2013-2014 PCOTY.

If we're getting the 276 hp variant, 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds or thereabouts is entirely possible with the CVT. Seamless shifting keeps you in the powerband more than having to swap between fixed gears. The 250 hp Ralliart Lancer did it in 6.5 seconds with the dual-clutch. No special launch techniques involved, just stand on the brakes and gas and let go of the brakes.

The slower time for the Genesis has to do with track condition. There isn't enough "bite" at the rear tires to do it any faster. We could've gotten faster times with a more aggressive clutch-slip launch (fastest launch was a simple 5k rpm clutch drop with throttle modulation), but we were there to test the cars, not destroy them.

    Sir,

when you say "lots of WOT", what do you mean?

Also, I went to check the XT at the dealer in Fort, and while testing the smart keyless entry, I had to try opening the door 2-3x before the car actually unlocks itself. Sa camry kasi I just put my hand on the door handle and it unlocks swiftly. Is this the case with you rin sir? thanks!

That air intake boh sides sa front bumpers, give it 3 years pangit na tignan ang forester coz that will look dirty. I think that's a design flaw.

Actually they non-functional, design lang. The air intake duct is coursed through the grill. Ü In my opinion it loses the signature hood scoop. With previous models naman it is the frameless doors.

    WOT = wide open throttle

medyo nakakalito nga din yung smart keyless entry, had to read the manual, pero di ko din agad nagets. yung mga tao naman sa casa medyo clueless din nung kinuha ko yung unit. its so simple after i figured it out. sa door handle ng driver, meron dun na parang 3 stripes of embossed strip, meron din yung passenger side. if the car is unlocked, touching those strips will lock the car. to unlock it, you touch the back of the door handle. kung mapapansin mo kulay brown yung back nung door handle, yun yung sensor. sa likod na mga doors wala nun, sa harap na doors lang me smart entry. pretty nifty if you get the hang of it. my key always stays inside my pants lang palagi. u dont need it to open the doors, or unlock it. u dont even need it when starting the push button engine. it just need to be in the proximity.

    Sir thanks for the reply.

Yeah when I was there the Sales Agent didn't even know it had smart entry, I told her meron, but it's not too responsive, because I did put my hands behind the door handle and waited for it to unlock. It didn't unlock, so I pulled the door handle 3x thinking iba ang unlocking mechanism nya sa Camry. Then it unlocked after a few seconds. So I guess it's the same lang rin, just put the hand behind the door handle. Sir does it unlock immediately, or do you have to wait pa for a few seconds after you put your hand behind the handle?

As for the embossed strips, I didn't see that, that's nice. I was looking for a push button sa door handle but didn't see one so I was under the impression that for locking, you really need to press the key na.

the key i think should be within half a meter from the door. my bro tried opening the passenger door while im on the driver side and it wont open, for security purpose i think, kung saang door ka malapit, yun lang pwede open. if you tried it for several quick succession lock unlock lock unlock, it will not respond, you have to wait for several seconds. i think 2 succession is the limit. we've fooled a lot of my frends already, saying that the car recognizes only the owner, somewhat like biometrics hehehehehe
