DOH COVID-19 CASE BULLETIN #153
We are reporting 6,216 new cases for August 14, 2020. This brings the total cases to 153,660.
Top reporting regions were NCR with 3,848 (62%) cases, followed by CALABARZON (1,016 or 16%) and Region 3 (311 or 5%). Also noted are the 278 cases reported among Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF).
These were from the submission of 98 of the 103 confirming laboratories, which is relatively higher compared to previous days which explains the high number of reported cases.
Of these newly reported cases, 4,973 (80%) occurred within the recent 14 days (August 1-14, 2020). The top regions with cases in these recent two weeks were NCR (3,044 or 61%), CALABARZON (896 or 18%), and Region 3 (290 or 6%).
For NCR, 45% of new cases were from three cities. Laguna, Rizal, and Cavite remain the top three provinces in CALABARZON where new cases are reported.
A total of 1,038 new recoveries are reported bringing the total recoveries to 71,405 or 46% of cumulative cases. There were 16 additional deaths. Of the 16, eight (50%) occurred in August, four (25%) in July, three (19%) in April, and one (6%) in May. The eight deaths in August were reported from NCR (4), Region 5 (2), Region 7 (1), and Region 9 (1). Note that of the 90 cumulative deaths which occurred in August, 37 (41%) were from NCR.
Note that there were 81 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, four (4) recovered cases were removed. There's also one (1) recovered case found to be negative and was removed in total case count. We also updated the health status of 15 cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths (4) and active (11) cases.
