On Wednesday, thousands of Michigan residents blocked traffic in Lansing, the state capital, while protesters in Kentucky disrupted Democratic Governor Andy Beshear’s afternoon news briefing on the pandemic, chanting “We want to work!”

States including Utah, North Carolina and Ohio also saw demonstrations this week, and more are planned for the coming days, including in Oregon, Idaho and Texas.

The demonstrations have unfolded against a political backdrop, as Republican President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly said he wants to “reopen” the economy as soon as possible, has clashed with governors over whether he can overrule their stay-at-home orders.

In Michigan, where Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer has imposed some of the country’s toughest limits on travel and business, some protesters at “Operation Gridlock” wore campaign hats and waved signs supporting Trump.

In Zhongnanhai, the area in central Beijing where leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and the state government have their offices, "there are now serious concerns over foreign companies withdrawing from China," a Chinese economic source said. Sitio Zapatera, a poor community struggling amid upscale commercial and high-rise condominium enclaves in the city’s uptown area, has been on lockdown since April 12 after three residents tested positive for COVID-19.

But the number of confirmed cases there ballooned to 53 as of 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, after the city health office conducted massive swab testing. The sitio has a population of about 9,000, or half that of the barangay.

The confirmed cases in Zapatera had represented more than half of the city’s 77 COVID-19 cases as of Thursday.

According to Labella, only five of the confirmed cases in Zapatera were sent to CCMC, which has only five available isolation rooms.

A Chicago hospital treating severe Covid-19 patients with Gilead Sciences’ antiviral medicine remdesivir in a closely watched clinical trial is seeing rapid recoveries in fever and respiratory symptoms, with nearly all patients discharged in less than a week, STAT has learned.

Remdesivir was one of the first medicines identified as having the potential to impact SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19, in lab tests. The entire world has been waiting for results from Gilead’s clinical trials, and positive results would likely lead to fast approvals by the Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies. If safe and effective, it could become the first approved treatment against the disease.

Not really. I think it is more of the frustration. Inspite of all the efforts, cases & deaths continue to rise & the expected plateau is not happening. The usual “pasaway” attitude of the pinoy is also to blame. I don’t think the Gov’t can afford an extension of the lockdown.
