The counter argument to that is that if you still allow people to move about, sooner or later the cases will explode uncontrollably and then your health system will crash, and then your economy will crash too -- domino effect. Either way, the economy crashes.

Lockdown = economy crashes
No lockdown = economy crashes too in the end

Middle ground will be to do some form of mass testing and isolate and treat those who are really infected, while the truly healthy ones continue to move the economy.

Yes definitely. Acting like all is normal (like what Italy and most of Western Europe did) will obviously lead to dire consequences both economically and in terms of public health.

But swinging to the other end of the pendulum (full lockdown) certainly isn't sustainable especially for poor economies.

I'd say SK is a model country but not everyone can do what they did because not all countries have the same resources, so the response of countries like us have to be cognizant of our limitations on funding and public health.

Regardless of the constraints though - what holds true is that countries who are decisive and quick to respond (whatever the response is) are fairing much better than countries who acted as if the virus would never reach them or acted as if everything was under control when it wasn't.

Well, they should have mentioned it, at least to squelch notions that this is all made up excuses again.

It's possible they didn't want to embarrass the donors. After all, it's possible the foundation purchased the test kits in good faith and got short changed unknowingly.
