Ayaw sabihin outright na mas malaking threat yung US variant...hehehe.

Given the rapid spread of the latest offshoot of the Omicron variant - XBB.1.5 - in the United States, WHO Regional Office for Europe officials on Tuesday recommended travel measures be implemented in a “non-discriminatory” manner.

That is not to say that “we recommend testing of patient of passengers coming from the U.S. at this stage. Countries need to look at the evidence base for pre-departure testing”, WHO’s senior emergency officer for Europe, Catherine Smallwood, told a news briefing.

Passengers should be recommended to wear masks in high-risk settings such as long-haul flights, she added, “this should be a recommendation issued to passengers arriving from anywhere where there is widespread COVID-19 transmission”.

    "why covid is china's fault"

COVID-19: made in China, financed by the US

    14.1.2022

A report on the origin of COVID-19 written by Major Joseph Murphy for the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) was released on 11 January 2021.

The officer states that COVID-19 came from a research project (Project Defuse) on bats in China and in the US, conducted by the NGO Ecohealth Alliance and funded by the NIH/NIAID. DARPA purportedly received Ecohealth Alliance's proposal in 2018 but refused to provide the USD 14 million requested – including around USD 1 million for the laboratory in Wuhan – due to safety concerns. A total of USD 86 378.25 was budgeted for a test on the deployment of immune-boosting aerosols in a bat cave in China.

    1. Will the Commission check the veracity of Murphy’s report on Ecohealth Alliance’s project – which allegedly created and spread COVID-19 in China – and, working with the EU Intelligence and Situation Centre (INTCEN), Member States and the US authorities, will it look into whether the project was publicly financed by the US via the NIH/NIAID?

    2. If the report turns out to be true, what legal, political and commercial means could it use to take action? Will it open an investigation to identify who should be held liable?

    Kraken

The '''Kraken''' is powering New York COVID hospitalizations to their highest level in nearly a year. Is it a sign of what’s coming for the rest of the country? | Fortune

New York COVID hospitalizations are at their highest level in nearly a year just after a new, ultra-transmissible COVID variant XBB.1.5, known as Kraken, achieved dominance in the northeast U.S.

Because the variant is so new, it’s unclear how well vaccines and prior infection protect against it. That adds to the uncertainty about any increase XBB.1.5 may cause in hospitalizations—or whether the new strain is generally more of the same, albeit more transmissible.

“Their immune protection may not be as effective against this variant. That’s the biggest concern,” Dr. Bruce Y. Lee, professor of health policy and management at the City University of New York School of Public Health, told Fortune

The locusts are back in HK... But not for shopping.

Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group, the exclusive China distributor of German firm BioNTech’s mRNA Covid-19 vaccine, said it has received more than 10,000 enquiries through its online booking service from people wanting to travel from mainland China to Hong Kong to receive the Omicron-focused shot.

Long queues of mainland Chinese nationals looking to receive the mRNA vaccine have been seen outside Hong Kong clinics this week. The border between the city and mainland China was opened at the weekend, and many travellers have been keen to receive the vaccine, which has not been available to citizens in mainland China where the government recently ended its zero-Covid approach.

    Talk about innovative banking incentives.

"Chinese Bank Offering Customers Pfizer COVID-19 Shot for $500,000" Chinese Bank Offering Customers Pfizer COVID-19 Shot for $5,

Either way, it's a win- win situation for the Chinese state owned bank based in HK and their potential clients seeking to obtain those much sought after western made mRNA vax in their native land.

Come to think of it, Dito nilalangaw na Ang mga vax centers offering Pfizer or astra boosters. I guess the abundance of those stuff here is a point of gratitude kahit pa paano although may halong devil-may-care attitude na din Dito sa atin since effectively balik (halos) normal na Ang Buhay Dito sa atin.

when virus enters vaccinated bodies, vaccine-induced antibodies will exert evolutionary pressure on the virus

the virus will produce mutants that will evade those antibodies

"are vaccines fueling new variants?" is a valid question

pero syempre the question is politically inconvenient

this is the farthest mainstream media will go to acknowledge the question

this is my very simplistic view on vaccinations:
"vaccination enables us to survive current infections, so that we may get to worry about newer variants later on."
"without vaccinations, we won't get to worry too much about the newer variants, because we'd be dead."
    heh heh heh.
