If you were not vaccinated and survived the infection... hehehe

Overall, in a national database study in Qatar, we found that the effectiveness of previous infection in preventing reinfection with the alpha, beta, and delta variants of SARS-CoV-2 was robust (at approximately 90%), findings that confirmed earlier estimates.1-3 Such protection against reinfection with the omicron variant was lower (approximately 60%) but still considerable. In addition, the protection of previous infection against hospitalization or death caused by reinfection appeared to be robust, regardless of variant.

Hong Kong reports 34,466 Covid cases on Monday | The Standard

Hong Kong reported a record daily number of 34,466 Covid-19 cases on Monday, a double from 17,063 two days ago.

Officials warned the number, which almost double every two or three days, will continue to go up.

Over the past 24 hours, another 87 Covid-19 patients died. They were aged between 51 and 100, a majority of them being elderly people.

Among them, 49 were residents of care homes. Sixty seven were unvaccinated.

A total of 636 people died since the fifth wave of outbreak. The Centre of Health Protection looked into 442 of those cases and found 92 percent of the cases to be aged 60 or above. Their median age was 84.

The fatality rate was 0.04 percent for patients aged 9 or below. It was much higher for elderly people – 0.17 percent for those aged between 60 and 69, and 0.87 percent for those between 70 and 79.

For those aged 80 or above, unvaccinated ones saw a fatality rate of 4.34 percent – 16 times as much as those who received two or more vaccine jabs.

Across all age groups, 81 percent of the dead patients did not receive any Covid-19 vaccines. The fatality rate for those who received two or more jabs was 0.03 percent.

Built in immunity from reinfection... is to get infected first. I guess same can be said if you were infected by BA.2. Even boosters can't give that kind of protection from breakthrough infection. hehehe

"Effectiveness of BA.1 infection against reinfection with BA.2 was estimated at 94.9%"

What I’m seeing here is like, software updates…

If you are infected with updated variant you are more likely immune to the next variants update? Pero mahina ang immunity from the previous variants…

Hong Kong ran out of room to stick to their zero covid policy. Used to be isolation for every positive case...

As Hong Kong’s new daily virus infections surged past 20,000 at the weekend, officials made a tacit acknowledgment that their system of confining every infected person -- a key pillar of the Covid Zero strategy -- had collapsed.

Vaccinated patients can now isolate at home and resume normal life once they test negative twice, the government said, an arrangement that formalized what had already been apparent for weeks as the city’s outbreak surged: Hong Kong has no place to confine all its Covid-positive people and probably should stop trying.

The financial hub’s unraveling isn’t just a health crisis, it’s also become a real-world illustration of how Covid Zero strategies -- key among them forced isolation of the infected and their close contacts to halt spread -- are unsustainable once cases grow beyond a certain, low level.

Local leaders still affirm their goal of suppressing the surge and maintaining “Dynamic Zero” to align with Beijing’s directions, even as the rest of the world is opting to live with the virus. Despite mounting evidence that the policy of isolation in such a massive outbreak can’t be sustained, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said last week that officials will not budge.
