I just finished my 1st semester as a doctoral student "in Japan". In quotation marks because I am in the Philippines the whole time.

A month ago, a Chinese classmate who I believe is in CHina had "Acute Upper Respiratory" illness (ndi pa tinwag ng covid eh) and requested for her presentation to be postponed.
Elderly Japanese adviser has covid when that presentation pushed through two weeks ago. He just wore mask and told us he is at home because of the virus.

I cant go in Japan due to entry ban and I wont let him come here because I dont to be the cause of death of an elderly Japanese professor.

Congrats on being a D1. I got a D1 too who was supposed to leave last Spetember, then postponed to October, until he's still here due to COVID. Luckily hakase courses don't have much in terms of actual course work. Just research, publish and then final defense of said research.

PhD by research ako so wala naman talaga ako coursework.

But most PhD courses in Japan naman ay ganun. Nung masters student ako, ang PhD students sa amin ay required lang to take 1 course for the duration o their study. Sa Pinas ang hilig magpakuha ng sandamakmak ng courses sa Phd level.

My program only requires me to go to Japan only once a year. May pamilya na ako so ayoko mawala ng matagal - Same reason I went back home after masters - mabilis lumaki ang mga bata eh ayaw naman tumira ng misis ko dun. Gusto lang pumunta as tourist hahaha

Back to Covid - mask is a norm in Japan kaso hindi din ganun ka restricted ang mga tao in terms of mobility kaya nagkaka surge pa din. May kaibigan ako dun and nag dine in sila, karaoke without a mask.

Not sure now how Japan handles visitors, but during an alumni meeting, from some who managed to leave in October, the process is an RT-PCR result valid for 72hours before they let you board the plane. Thne a rapid-test whne you arrive at immigration, wait 2-4 hours and then regardless of result, another RT-PCR. If negative on rapid-test, they send you to a quarantine hotel while you wait for the RT-PCR result. In the hotel you stay for 15 days (5 days is paid by MEXT, the rest is on you). If positive on rapid or RT-PCR), presumably they send you to a hospital, so far no one has reported being positive. After 15 days, only then can you continue on to your university.

more like the polls have changed

Biden is so unpopular they need to dial back restrictions and mandates

even liberals are tired of Biden's pandemic response

araLin nyo mga kinakain nyo so find your heaLth. What makes you strong what makes you weak.

LateLy waLa ako napanuod interview ni forever Lockdown mukhang nagaabang ng bagong variant.

Eh siLa-siLa Lang din namam gumagamit teLepono.
