it would seem, the authors made use of data from an institution that only collected data from all around, without confirming the veracity of said data.
some of the publisher's readers (people who are supposed to read the articles before publishing, to see if they are up to snuff), resigned as a result.

this institution's objective was to collect data, to provide prospective researchers background information to guide them in their researches.

it is so easy nowadays to read misleading, albeit authoritative-sounding, literature...

Lockdowns Prevent Only .2% of COVID Deaths: Study

An analysis from Johns Hopkins University says lockdowns during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic did little to reduce the number of COVID-related deaths and should be "rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument" because of their devastating effect on the economy and society.

Lockdowns in the United States and Europe reduced COVID-related deaths by only .2%, and shelter-in-placed orders reduced deaths by 2.9%, the study says.

"We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality," wrote the authors of the paper published in the journal Studies in Applied Economics. "Overall, we conclude that lockdowns are not an effective way of reducing mortality rates during a pandemic, at least not during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic."

The study was written by economists, not epidemiologists, and was based on a review of 34 other studies published by July 1, 2020, during the early part of the global pandemic. They looked at mortality rates but didn't consider how lockdowns might have affected the number of infections or virus-related hospitalizations. They also didn't use studies that forecast deaths.

Walang effect yung vaccines in the upper respiratory tract where Omicron enter and thrives. IgA antibodies in the saliva and upper respiratory lining gets little or no benefit from vaccines...

Thus, intramuscular vaccination drastically increases both total and NAb concentration in the serum but not in the salivary compartment, indicating that at least oral mucosal immunity is poorly activated by this vaccination protocol.

which is why current vaccines don't prevent infection and transmission

    only reduce severity

    that's one study.
another study says the IgA levels are significantly enhanced, but..
in summary, in both studies, there are "yes buts".
sorry, i don't know how to put the link here. but it's in google.

    i suppose,
    that means,
    more studies are in order.

Yung betadine gargle/mouth spray siguro mas mainam sa saliva and upper respiratory? If no benefits yung part na yan sa vaccine.

Hindi ko pa rin napa booster mga seniors. I can't decide kung sa Makati or Nayong Pilipino drive thru. I want Pfizer din kasi my UF told me her Doctor said safest booster ang Pfizer. How will I know which of the sites have Pfizer

You can check out the LGU/site FB pages. But as far as my own experience with the booster shot, marami na vaccines available that when I went to the vaccine site last month, I not only "walked in", the staff even gave me a choice what I wanted.

Is this the study? From Canada

We detected anti-Spike/RBD IgG and IgA and associated secretory component in the saliva of most participants receiving 1 dose of mRNA vaccine. Administration of a second dose of mRNA boosted the IgG but not the IgA response, with only 30% of participants remaining positive for IgA at this timepoint. At 6 months post-dose 2, these participants exhibited greatly diminished anti-Spike/RBD IgG and IgA levels concomitant with a reduction in neutralizing activity in the saliva, although the level of secretory component associated anti-Spike was less susceptible to decay.

These data emphasize the importance of developing COVID-19 vaccines that elicit a durable IgA response.

Our study delves into whether intra-muscular mRNA vaccination regimes confer a local IgA response in the oral cavity and whether the IgA response is associated with protection against breakthrough infection.

the study i saw, compared Ig levels from vaccinations on previously-infected covids and not-previously infected subjects. it was indian, i believe.
it would seem, that those who were previously infected with covid, and subsequently vaccinated, showed significantly higher mucosal IgA levels than those who did not get previously infected prior to vaccination.

there are many studies out there, but they are hideously difficult to comprehend.
i had to read and re-read the words several times, to begin to understand...
hindi ko kasi linya ang immunology.

    but then,
these are just antibody determinations. it may not always agree with clinical pictures.

the fact that vaxxed people can still get infected and can transmit the virus is already proof that current vaccines aren't working as intended

that's why they're already testing covid vax to be delivered via nasal route
