Study links fermented vegetable consumption to low COVID-19 mortality

An intriguing new study by researchers in Europe suggests that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mortality rates are likely to be lower in countries where diets are rich in fermented vegetables.

Flimsy talaga box ng original 3M N95 masks. Kaya masisira sa shopee or Lazada packaging, except lagyan ng seller ng carton box. Request mo sa indoplas

Definitely reasonably priced na sya. Last year, 300-380php a piece sya.
    Pre-pandemic, 40-50php lang original price[emoji12]

Legit ata. Inquirer article seems to be syndicated from Korea Herald. I searched and found the paper they were mentioning in the report:

Nrf2-interacting nutrients and COVID-19: time for research to develop adaptation strategies | Clinical and Translational Allergy | Full Text
Kimchi attenuates fatty streak formation in the aorta of low-density lipoprotein receptor knockout mice via the inhibition of ER stress (via several mechanisms including eIF2α) and apoptosis [99]. Nutrients originating from Kimchi and its ingredients modulate the Nrf2/PERK signalling pathway to homeostasis in oxidative stress states. Kimchi and its bioactive compound ((3–4′-hydroxyl-3′,5′-dimethoxyphenyl) propionic acid: HDMPPA), which is a metabolite result from fermentation, alleviate oxidative stress and inflammatory response not only via the Nrf2 pathway, but also via the PERK/CHOP pathway, which induced apoptosis of ER, in cardiovascular disease and ageing models [100,101,102]. In addition, Arvelexin from Brassica rapa and anthocyanin-rich extract from red cabbage exert anti-inflammatory properties by the inhibition of NF- κB activation and by Nrf2-regulated HO-1 induction in macrophages and apolipoprotein E-deficient mice [103, 104], suggesting that Nrf2 activation during inflammation antagonizes the NF-κB pathway. It is possible that the intake of Kimchi may help to mitigate COVID-19 outcomes by maintaining or restoring the Nrf2 system.

Metro Manila Mayors wants 1 week extension of ECQ. Even Joey Conception agrees, ending it to soon would just waste the ECQ.

Six months so far... for Pfizer-Fosun-Biontech vaccine

Pfizer says Covid-19 vaccine protection lasts at least six months, protects against variants - CNN

The vaccine remains more than 91% effective against disease with any symptoms for six months, the companies said.

And it appeared to be fully effective against the worrying B.1.351 variant of the virus, which is the dominant strain circulating in South Africa and which researchers feared had evolved to evade the protection of vaccines, the companies said.

"The vaccine was 100% effective against severe disease as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and 95.3% effective against severe COVID-19 as defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)," Pfizer and BioNTech said in a joint statement.

"The high vaccine efficacy observed through up to six months following a second dose and against the variant prevalent in South Africa provides further confidence in our vaccine's overall effectiveness."

The company has been studying the vaccine in more than 46,000 volunteers and has noted 927 cases of confirmed Covid-19.

"From the 927 confirmed symptomatic cases of COVID-19 in the trial, 850 cases of COVID-19 were in the placebo group and 77 cases were in the BNT162b2 group, corresponding to vaccine efficacy of 91.3%," it said.

T cells induced by COVID-19 infection respond to new virus variants -U.S. study

    By Julie Steenhuysen

(This March 30 story corrects last paragraph to show the paper has been peer reviewed)

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A critical component of the immune system known as T cells that respond to fight infection from the original version of the novel coronavirus appear to also protect against three of the most concerning new virus variants, according to a U.S. laboratory study released on Tuesday.

Several recent studies have shown that certain variants of the novel coronavirus can undermine immune protection from antibodies and vaccines.

But antibodies - which block the coronavirus from attaching to human cells - may not tell the whole story, according to the study by researchers at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). T cells appear to play an important additionally protective role.

“Our data, as well as the results from other groups, shows that the T cell response to COVID-19 in individuals infected with the initial viral variants appears to fully recognize the major new variants identified in the UK, South Africa and Brazil,” said Andrew Redd of the NIAID and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine who led the study.

The researchers analyzed blood from 30 people who had recovered from COVID-19 before the emergence of the new more contagious variants.

From those samples, they identified a specific form of T cell that was active against the virus, and looked to see how these T cells fared against the concerning variants from South Africa, the UK and Brazil.

They found the T-cell responses remained largely intact and could recognize virtually all mutations in the variants studied.

The findings add to a prior study that also suggested T cell protection appears to remain intact against the variants.

The NIAID researchers said larger studies are needed to confirm the findings. Continued monitoring for variants that escape both antibody and T cell protection is needed, Redd said.

The paper has been peer reviewed and accepted for publication in Open Forum Infectious Diseases.

T cells induced by COVID-19 infection respond to new virus variants -U.S. study | Reuters

    comments

This is the result of a fresh study: T cells induced by COVID-19 infection respond to new virus variants: U.S. study. It basically means no vaccine is needed for those who have already had a Covid infection which, depending on the country, could mean currently up to 60% of the population :
    -------

    Absolutely

And it means that the Single-Antigen inducing vaccines like vector and mRNA are inferior and even foster the spread of escape-mutations.

    Three consequences:

If you have had covid and not yet vaccinated: you don’t need one.

If you are vaccinated but you wasn’t infected. An infection, now maybe less harmless through vaccination, is still the only way to acquire t-cell immunity against possible variants. You need SarsCov2 in you to produce response to various of its structures so that future escape variants can be countered by your immunity

Or you’ll have to live in fear and wait 9-12 month for every „new“ adjusted vaccine

Third: whole-virion vaccines are the only sane choice if you don’t want to get infected

actually you don't even have to get infected with SARSCOV2 to develop t-cells that can recognize the virus when you encounter it

if you got infected with other coronaviruses you will develop t-cells that will cross-react with SARSCOV2

    not infection.

it can be something as basic as a cough suppressant.

the chinese has its own take of the kimchi and they claim that it's better than the korean version so is it possible, by crookedly following this line of thought, that this is what they used as their secret weapon to stem their covid19 tsunami too?

i guess this is one of the reasons why the koreans and the chinese had a recent long fermenting pickled spat (pun intended) about the supposed cultural appropriation of this particular traditional dish. if either one of their claims are proven to be true, then it's going to be a windfall for those sonovaguns.

forgive my irreverence, i think it's the prostaglandins that's talking. i ran myself to the ground yesterday and i'm feeling the hurt now.

whatever can possibly lead to stopping covid19 is the golden bullet w/c can be one's big bonanza.

i guess someone should look into fermented local delights like achara, burong mustasa, burong pipino, etc. i mean desperate times, call for desperate measures....and we're sure desperately deep in the bung hole.

Ongoing trial shows Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine remains highly effective after six months - CNN

I would assume other vaccine would have same or even shorter length of efficacy. This is disturbing if you think about how slow our inoculation progress is. Projection is 1 year and worse is 3 years. That will be like going in circles.

The hope is this is just because they only have 6 months data. Pero Pfizer ito, yung ibang vaccine kaya na nasa atin?
